And Genesis WITHOUT Peter is POP, not PROG.
I sadly don't own any of their albums, but I like to discover their music; can you tell me wich album is best to start with? Thank you!

Thank you very much for your recommendation; I heard that 'Nursery Crime' is also a good one of Genesis...
Of course I know the most of these prog bands - I start to become more and more 'prog rock fan':). I love for example 'Octopus' by Gentle Giant, early Yes (Fragile, Close To The Edge...) and I also like Focus; I simply want to explore something that is not 'mainstream' - new harmonies etc. ...
Is it really progressive anymore? They went and did it all... those bastards. To play music of those genres now would actually be 'regressive rock'.
Shit. I think I just found myself a label!

I would start early, like with Stand Up or Benefit before diving "Headlong" into Aqualung and Thick As A Brick. Warning, after that, you will be hooked. Even Jethro Tull "80's" it out at one point, but it's still good stuff. Enjoy!
As far as Genesis is concerned, I would take a similar approach. Lamb is truly a work of art, but you need an introduction.
Instead of Nursery Cryme, which is good, I would go for Foxtrot instead. It's got all the bells and whistles. Now Peter is going to take you on a trip, but Foxtrot allows you to see the Guitar & B3 combo that Banks & Rutherford bring to the table.
Selling England continues that, but Peter starts to really shine at this point and really takes your attention off the rest of the music. You do get to hear lead vocals from Phil for the first time, though.

I love prog rock..Queen (early years), Tull, Yes...all amazing.
RUSH!!!!
My God, I can't believe you all forgot Rush!
Why Rush, though? Well, here's why:
Throughout their early days (1970's), they pretty much perfected the prog-rock sound. However, it wasn't the conventional type of rock that had been popular several years prior.
Instead it was an edgy, excruciatingly powerful sound that only the trio of Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson, and Neil Peart could create and share with the world.
Now this isn't the first time I've mentioned Rush as one hell of a band...but I still can't believe no one else has mentioned them in this topic.
I heard that Frank Zappa can also be categorized into 'prog'; does someone here likes his music and could recommend me with which album to start? Thanks in advance.

Slightly disagree... listen to A Trick Of The Tail, Wind And Wuthering, and And Then There Were Three... they were still very prog. They didn't shift to pop until Duke, which was 5 years after Gabriel left the band. Sure, their singles from '78 onward were pop, but every "commercial era" (if you will) Genesis album still has its nods to prog.

I didn't forget! Rush are one of Canada's greatest exports. They're definitely one of my favourite bands. You're preaching to the choir!

What the hell do you have against Canadians, anyway? You've whined about them at least twice before, as if 30 million people should be subject to some kind of stereotypes or prejudice.

Oh yes!
I love the first few King Crimson albums! I haven't heard the later stuff yet.
