ok, I am going to put these two records together into a category of albums I listen to when I am in the mood to listen to their non serious fun records. If you look throughout their entire catalog, most of the albums i.3. their first 5 and innuendo are overproduced serious groundbreaking classic queen sounding records. The drive of instrumental detail, chord arrangements, and vocal harmony perfection is stressed with these masterpieces. Jazz and the Miracle, content aside are 2 records that I blast when I drive home to work or when i go out. They pump me up as they sound like a band having fun and just rocking it with a blend of heavy rock/funk that is just set forth to let me be free from my surroundings and just let it all out. Thge songs are there to have fun and have the juices flowing. These are the kind of attitudes that I see the band having when making these records. They stepped away from the seriousness and trying to have every little deatil be perfect, but instead created and put fotrh music that is fun and uplifting. There are times when I love their serious and classic style, but there are times that I mentioned where I want to be feel loose and I think these two records fill that bill. There are songs from these two that people think are crap like fun it, motj, party, kashhogi's ship, and my baby does me. I can understand that these songs don't live up to the standards of others. I can agree with that in a way. But you know what, I like the fact that throuhout their careers they balanced masterpieces with so called fillers. As the Miracle for example I love blasting Party and Ship as their just upbeat non serious rock/funky songs that pump me up to the classics on the record i.e. IWIA, Scandal and WIAWI. Just like what the band didm they changed with the times and created new types of music so that they would not be bored. Now some things I didn't like, the OVERUSE of synths in the 80's especially on Hot Space and AKOM which turned their rock sound into some crappy 80 wuss pop songs. Every person has their own issues with the band. To wrap up my feelings and not continue my babbling, whether you love these records or not, Jazz and the Miracle are Queen's fun records which enpowers me and gives me great joy. |

I totally agree with fluery44, it's nice to put Jazz and The Miracle side by side for once. When you think about it, those two albums were very let loose albums (as was Hot Space). Jazz was very much a true rock and roll album. The Miracle was a very poppish yet hard rocking album with a very awesome sound. However, I mostly like listening to that classic Queen sound. Lets face it, musically Queen were outstanding. It was nice to here the band rock out real hard, but I liked it better when they experimented with different genres of music. For instance, The Millionaire Waltz (one of my all time favorites) had so much emotion and was just by far one of the bands greatest songs (regardless if it ever was a single). Bohemian Rhapsody was a one off. We've all heard it before...blah blah blah. Its probably the greatest rock song of all time. Another song was Good Company, which had a "big band" feel to it. Wierd song, but what a great song. Lets also not forget Love of my Life, a beautiful piano sound with striking vocals that are just-urrrrrrr-I can't even put it into words! It's just such a great song! When its all said and done, Queen were unique. They were a hard rocking band that weren't afraid to experiment and be different. Thats what I love about them, they were just so different. They took a chance and survived (except for Hot Space). Hot Space was the wierdest for me, but I dug it. It was pretty cool. |

I personally like Jazz more than The Miracle...simply because on The Miracle...there are a lot of odd songs...whereas Jazz has the more stronger Queen songs... The Miracle (example) - My Baby Does Me, Party, Khahoggi's Ship...etc...Bleh...and The Miracle gets pretty annoying as well (the song) Jazz - Dreamer's Ball, Jealousy...Dead On Time...etc... I think Jazz is a stronger and better put-together album then The Miracle...and I'm no expert in instrumentals or whatever...but The Miracle seems to be lacking some... :S Please don't slice me in two... *hides* |

Lacking what? What is the Miracle lacking? I actually think that all Queen albums are different and are special for that. Each album is unique. Thats what makes Queen so great. They have variety in styles. Now, I'm not trying to slice you in two, don't get me wrong, I respect your opinion. I'm just trying to let you in on a different perspective. Back to business: Queen always knew how to pick an atmosphere for an album and keep it. Jazz, had a very "crazy ass rock" sound to me. Its hard to pick the words, but thats how I feel. I mean, that has some of Queen's heaviest songs! It was phenominal! Fat Bottomed Girls, Dead on Time (which, I may be mistaken, had a similar chord progression as Stone Cold Crazy), Let Me Entertain You, If You Can't Beat Them, were all hard rocking tunes. However, the Miracle had a very poppish hard rocking sound. Which wasn't abnormal at the time (1989). I absolutely love the feeling you get when you listen to it. I think it was very well put together. Not one flaw that I can recongnize. I can't see why people don't like My Baby Does Me or The Miracle, they were very relaxed songs. They simply had style. Another example of an album would be A Day at the Races, this album had a very romantic setting (disregarding White Man of course). But still it had that feeling, that groove, that always had me coming back for more. As I always say, Queen were great for having variety and not being afraid to try something new. I hope my point came across, but anyway, I'm enjoying this topic a lot. We're getting some good feed back. Keep it coming guys! |

I love the feedback. I jus truely b elieve that Queen are the geniuses of music. They explored every type of music and put forth a little of everything for everyone. I hear what people say when they think The miracle might be too popish, but al least the songs there are songs I sill love and joy. I think the faults of Queen are that they could have done a liitle more with some songs. I'll give examples form Hot Space. Take Staying Power and Action this Day. I can stand the first and I really like the later, but if listen to Miltyon Keyes, you could see how these songs could have been so much better. Add guitar riffs instead of Synths. Same goes for songs like Don't lose your Head and The Invisible man. I like both, but maybe if you gave them that guitar, it would have that "Dragon Attack" type sound which would make their really good songs. However, I still enjoy a great majority of their product and love the diversity. That's why although the albums are different, I still claim that Jazz and the M iracle are the fun records and is a good change of pace to the other classic material. |

I agree.. They are Queen's Fun-albums. Jazz is the start of what would become Queen in the 80's, and The Miracle ends the 80's periode.. I don't know what to write here, but I just have to say that I like "My Baby Does Me", everybody always complain on that one. And this is one of the more serious songs on The Miracle. The lyrics aren't very deep, but it is serious enough. The Bass is really great, and Freddie sings his heart out. But I have to say that the early stuff is better, but these two albums are important. And when I was younger, both of these albums have been my favorites.. The Miracle was the first Queen album I bought, and I have a lot of feelings to it.. Songs like "Was it all worth it" and "In only seven days" are great, but if I have to pick out one bad song from each album, I'd go for "The Invisible Man" and "More of that Jazz".. and I never listen to "Bicycle Race"... All in all, as the subject was, these 2 albums always gets me in a good mood! Sorry for wasting your time reading this, I just have to post it, because I wrote so much.. :) |
