I just saw Vol. 1 of Magic Years on You Tube.
HOLY HELL!!!!!!!! That is by far, and I mean a freakin' mile, the greatest Queen documentary ever. I have seen bits of it recycled here and there in other videos, but what I had not seen until now was absolutely incredible!
I could go on and on with cool stuff, but I will just skip to the end part which made my jaw drop. Freddie, Brian, John and Roger in the studio making 'One Vision'. I have seen about 20 or so seconds of that footage before, but not 4 or 5 minutes worth like in Magic Years. You see them go forward, then go off, then struggle with a part, then try something, then decide it doesn't work, then change a lyric, then try something else that does work, etc... You see how anal Freddie is over every little detail. What a perfectionist! And some of the experimenting and playing around sounds AWESOME!!! I swear, I would love to listen, and would listen all day to Queen just @$cking around in the studio. I don't just want the demos now. I want random musical brainstorming.
I've heard the albums, I have seen the concerts, the videos, Freddie's theatrics and showmanship. What I had not gotten a taste of until now was a look into the creative process behind their music. In a small way, I wish I hadn't seen it because now I am jonesing for more!
So please, anyone out there whose tight with Brian and Roger, please please please try and convince Queen + Paul Rodgers to place a video camera in the studio to film the new album.
Wow!
It's odd, because Brian insists that the proceedings felt a little phoney, having the camera crew there all the time.
If you ask me, it didn't really 'impede' the song much, but it's kinda sad they were never filmed without feeling sort of spied on. Heh.
