Im really getting annoyed with something.. its been literally years since i have seen the Album News of the World. I just want to know if Album just includes 3 pictures.. the one where the robot is reaching in, the intial head of the robot on the cover and then the other pic that shows the green background and its full body with people falling from hand. Oh and are the pics that were on the album ALL duplicated in the C.D? meaning nothing has changed, they didnt leave out any pics out of the cd that were on the album right? I just want someone to tell me yes or no because its starting to drive me insane. I would greatly appreciate it. thank you :)
The U.S. Hollywood CD is missing the bottom/back of the original cover showing the robot on its knees and Roger falling. The original inside gatefold is preserved though inside the 4-panel 'booklet'.
Ok i guess to make this simpler, are these the ONLY pics ever made of this album? Meaning are these the pics that were on the record album too i know people have told me these are the only pics they see on the cd and im just wondering if this is it? see the whole idea is im writing a paper on it and im trying to be as accurate as possible. Please take a look and tell me and i wont ask anymore questions :) link link link
Yes, that EMI version of the CD includes the whole thing. It's actually two big pictures, one of which was the cover (folded) and one which was the inside of the folded cover.
So what they've done there, since the booklet is done in this manner rather than being sideways, is they've put the bottom part on the back cover of the CD, as it should be. Hollywood Records in the U.S. did not do that. Instead, they lose the bottom half of the cover pic completely and replace it with a close-up of the crumbling hole from that pic.
Your first pic is the top half of the cover pic. The 2nd pic is the bottom half. Originally these were as one in a giant gatefold vinyl album 12" x 24" or so. With the 3rd picture there being the inside of it, which they've preserved inside the booklets for CD.
So what you're asking about only those three pics.. yes and no.. it's actually only two pics but each folded over on the original vinyl. The only other included picture being one of Queen.
But yes, between those 3 images you have all of the artwork that was on the original UK vinyl album :)
I hope that answers your question. It's just slightly confusing trying to explain how they altered the continuous front/back cover pic for CD.
THANK YOU for this topic!!! I've been wondering about this myself for some time. I also felt something was missing. Now I finally know and thanks for including pics of the original artwork.
It is unfortunate that the artwork of many vinyl LP covers were not (as in this case for the Hollywood CD version) or perhaps could not be, duplicated faithfully for the CDs. The artwork on the covers is part of the joy of owning these works.
