listen to this and tell me what the difference is compared to mp3???????????? link
will post rest of show in flac if someone can convince me its better.
the challenge is there
Sorry, but I very much doubt that this is a lossless file at all to begin with: link
Whatever you did with this recording, in no way this is straight from an unprocessed tape > WAV transfer.
Aside from that, the discussion whether there is an audible difference between a lossless file and an mp3 made from it, is really obsolete. There is no denying that you even need a real high quality playback system to tell a difference between lossy and lossless of an officially released recording.
The problem with lossy formats is that the quality is extremely degraded if an already lossy file gets encoded multiple times. That alone makes mp3 completely unacceptable for distributing unreleased live shows. Aside from that, mp3 encoding also causes clicks at the track transitions and may introduce other kinds of digi noise into the recording, which can be extremely annoying for live recodings in particular.
I agree, this is not a true FLAC encoding. It was definitely an mp3 (or some other compressed format) somewhere down the line.
The file is in mono sound, too. I'm not sure what you did to this...
Can you tell us? We'd like to help you out.

Oh man, I totally feel your pain. I once lost an important tape like this, too. It's one of the worst feelings a collector can feel.
But at least we have the version you uploaded. It's certainly better than nothing.
