I don't like Bush either, but Chavez is not a saint. The 80% of the population here in Venezuela lives in poverty, and the slary of the people here is 200€ or 250$ depending on your countries while the basic groceries for a family of 5 people is above the 500€-600$. I think he should take care of this country for real and not doing all the "anti Bush" propaganda he's doing now. |

Disagreeing with Bush, and doing what Chavez did are two vastly different things. In a way, I see what Chavez did helping Bush and the Republicans. I know that Charles Rangel took Chavez to task, as should all Americans. Regarding this falls elections, it dosen't really matter WHO you put in office, they are all the same anyway. :( Just as the election in 2004, it is a sad state of affairs in the US when the two men you ahve to choose from for President are George Bush and John Kerry. Bad. |

It is not George Bush's fault that residents didn't listen. Mistakes were made, by not only the residents, but by Federal, State, and Local governments as well. My guess is, next time, they will. The bottom line with Katrina is, people knew it was coming, people knew what damage could potentially occur if it actually hit New Orleans, and tens of thousands did not leave. No one hears anymore, though, about the other hundreds of thousands of people in Missisippi, where the damage was far and away WORSE than New Orleans. Why? Because people there had enough sense to leave. |

Well I voted and I'm complaining. His stance on foreign policy needs to be revised. His stance on immigration is pathetic, but no one will do anything about it because these "illegal's" are potential voters in the end. I can go on, but I'm at work. It's his "I'm right, you're wrong" way of thinking that really gets to me. That's why I mention the black kettle. Was calling him the devil a bit over the top? maybe but I said it. If you were a politician and the ACME Corporation offered you $1 Million dollars to vote yes or no on a certain proposition, what would you do? Most politicians get into politics for the right reasons, but in the end they end up corrupt just like the rest of Washington. |

And what 3 freaky opinions are you ranting about?Ah, if only you knew. 1 - several presidents have left office with an approval rating of more than 50%, which is satisfying more than half the nation. Even now, Bush's is at 37%, which is considered "very low" though only 13% away from half. 2 - You say half is our fault, half is Congress's fault. Then someone else uses the words "checks and balances." Apparently, neither one of you have heard the word "veto," which is the President's constitutional right to zap any legislation. It's the President who is responsible for enforcement. Bush has taken this to a new step by issuing "signing statements" when he signs a new law by laying out how he wants to interpret any law he's not in love with. 3 - And perhaps you can explain how the public is responsible for welfare? That's a new one to me. Never saw a welfare referendum on any ballot I voted on. Still, nice to see YSM get flustered and pour out his economic history in an attempt to prove he's better than me. Keep it up, doing a good job. And for the record, never said it was Bush's fault. I just hate YSM's abuse of history and claiming his "opinion" as fact. |

Clinton bears far more responsibility for the attacks than does Bush. The National Security was very, very screwed up, and even though changes have been made, the system is still broken. Much better than it was, but still broken. Regarding Katrina (you are sure spouting the Democratic talking points pretty good here!!), how many possible ways did the Local government, as well as the State, tell those people to GET OUT OF TOWN? It is not George Bush's fault that residents didn't listen. Mistakes were made, by not only the residents, but by Federal, State, and Local governments as well. My guess is, next time, they will. The bottom line with Katrina is, people knew it was coming, people knew what damage could potentially occur if it actually hit New Orleans, and tens of thousands did not leave. No one hears anymore, though, about the other hundreds of thousands of people in Missisippi, where the damage was far and away WORSE than New Orleans. Why? Because people there had enough sense to leave.Haystacks Calhounski wrote:It's on record that the White House ignored warnings of a possible attack involving hijacked planes. Local emergency services were left on their own dealing with the whole catastrophe. What do you say to them and the victims? Barbara Bush herself said that the people trapped at the Lousiana Superdome were living much better there than at their own homes. Goes to show how much sensitivity the Bush family has for the underprivileged. The worst part of all was the fact that Bush decided to hire an old buddy of his as a head of FEMA. As we all know by now, Michael Brown couldn't even run an Arabian Horse Association, and then gets asked to run FEMA? How fucked up is that? There's thousands of local heads of Fire Departments and other local emergency departments who have a much better knowledge of how to respond to an emergency, but the priority for Bush is to give old friends jobs instead of putting people who are truly qualified for such an important position. |

You can see these Government aided people getting into their Brand new cars going to the food pantry and wearing a fucking rolex? hmmm, but you are right and i wrong. I don't know where in the USA you live but obviously you need to open up your eyes. And another thing about Welfare and other assistance, the government won't cut these abusers off, that the problem, while i pay almost 50% of my earnings in taxes, these ppl have illegal jobs of dealing drugs, and this is while they are getting their rent, untilities, and everything else paid for while the husband goes out and deals drugs in his brand new car, while the woman sits on her ass at home with 6 fucking kids and collects. That is what i am talking about.I almost hate to jump in here, because it looks like some people in this debate can't keep it civilized without going into various personal attacks, which are always unwarranted and half of the reason politics sucks nowadays, but I have to say something here. I agree with you, YSM...there are abusers of the welfare system out there, and they should be cut off. However, are you arguing that it would be better not to have the system at all? You can't stereotype...not everyone on the welfare system abuses it. In fact, I think that as long as there is 1 person out there who really needs it and isn't abusing it, then I'm willing to put up with others abusing it. You might make a lot of money, and good for you for that. But remember not everyone is as lucky as you, and it's not neccessarily because they are lazy and selling drugs. Maybe they are physically handicapped? Mentally handicapped? You can't just let those people starve to death. They are people too. |
