Already had this but thank you for sharing. It's a nice mix. Shame it was never officially released. Always something strange about that song on Innuendo. It sounds sorta like a demo.. not quite up to the quality of the rest of the tracks. And that really shows on the 2001 remaster, where it sounds simply awful. Either they messed with the EQ too much or the new master exposes its weaknesses.
But my point is.. between this remix and the 1997 re-take, it's clear that many weren't happy with the album version.
Hope they include this on the singles box. Sure like to have it in better quality ;)
...a.k.a. Malouf Mix.
About "demo" sounding of ICLWY:
"'The Show Must Go On' has a very broad and lush sound to it, which I like, whereas 'I Can't Live With You' turned out very, very close and harsh. And no matter what you do, you can't mix that out of it. It probably benefits the track, but they just have different atmospheres - you do them in different places and in diferent ways. For some reason, that track [ICLWY] was almost impossible to mix. It was one of those things where you put all the faders up and it sounds pretty good, and you think, "We'll work on this for a couple of hours. "Then it gets worse and worse and worse. We kept going back to the rough mix. It's got an atmosphere to it. I think it sounds so special because we kept a lot of the demo stuff on it. Usually it all gets replaced." (Brian)
Thanks for sharing.
Funny, i allways thought that the 1997 Rocks re-take was intended to sound like a demo (it has rough drums), sort of live thing.
But you guys feel the oposite way!??
I think the INNUENDO version is really clean and perfect.
Take care
Thank you so very much for this incredible version! I like it very much too!!!!!!!!
Despite of everything I do believe none of tghe two tracks (album and promo version) are a demo....
Reason is: when you record a demo, music and voice as well as choruses are recorded on the same track and cannot be separated. While, when you are recording an initial version of the song or a final version, you're in the second phase of the studio creation-process which means you have separated tracks for voice, choruses and base... maybe base is still rough (each instrument hasn't been played itself on separate tracks as you can see in the one vision video, but all together) but they're separate from the voice so you still can take the track of the voice and re-record the base. At the time innuendo was released, despite to the few new made in heaven tracks, the album was recorded with the old "classical" creation process so Brian, ROger and John would not have needed Freddie in the studio to re-arrange the base, so I guess it is a final version because they had all the way time and possiblity to change it....
Some of the made in heaven tracks such as mother love and a winter's tale which are the few REALLY not older songs, have been recorded in a sort of demo-wise.... the Freddie didn't wait that the other memebers of Queen finished to played the instruments and then recorded the choruses and background lines and finally he would put his voice on it... everything would have been done at the same time, like a LIVE-TAKE because Freddie knew that at the time it was not left much to him to accomplish to an entire new album.......this is it.....
Hope this can make some clearence....
Love always
Please note I'm bring polite here and only using CAPS cos I don't know how to do italics!!!
Firstly, thanks for mp3!
Second: it's BASS, not BASE!!!
Thirdly: It's NORMAL practice to record demos as multitracks e.g. 4 track or 8 track or as many tracks as your equipment allows! Sure, some demos are only 1 track embedded (Lennon's Free as a Bird for example) but I'm sure Brian had at least a Tascam 4 track in the late 80s!!!
No, the Headbanger's mix was on the original 1984 12" single. It's efectively the extended version.
There was a Hollywood promo single in 1992 (?) with a Brian Malouf mix of HTF. From memory it had GH2 type artwork and Bo Rhap was on there too.
Somewhere in between all the nonsense that has been said within this thread (just re-read it all and I am pretty sure you will find it funny too), I would like to add that this link points in fact to an officially issued version and as is it should be removed from this site (yes, albeit it comes from a promo release).
"A picture is worth a thousand words" - just see this: link
This promo CD5 has two versions actually:
1. I Can't Live With You (Malouf remix edit) 4:16
2. I Can't Live With You (Malouf remix) 4:29
By the way, this page has a very interesting article about copyright infringement: link
Somewhere in between you get a proper explanation of why this site would not incur in it if its people sticks to the rules.
