Sir GH

ah yeah
wrote: It's available in FLAC if anyone wants it. This is a master recording from a new source which is not available in any other format right now. If you truly appreciate this recording, then you'll understand that this is a new source, in better quality than the old source, and that it should remain it that way. The same goes for the new London 84 sources, Manchester 86, and Dallas 78. These recordings first showed up on Dime and TTD, so we know for a fact that there were no mp3 copies when they first hit the Internet. Let's see if it stays that way. If you don't want FLAC, then leave these recordings alone, as you can't truly want the recordings that badly and appreciate how important they are. The original sharers asked for these not to be converted to mp3, so that in itself should be enough reason to leave them alone.

At Dime, about a year ago I think. It's the same source as we had for a while, but the guy who recorded it generously wanted to share it because it wasn't available in complete form. Right after he recorded the concert, he transferred the show to two tapes, lucky for us, because one of the two master cassettes literally fell apart over the years. So, disc 1 is from the first gen tape, and disc 2 is from the master. I think it ended up being torrented here too, but that was soon after the original share. I can hook you up with a copy if you'd like.

How would you react if people started to say that folks who listen to vinyl records should stop listening to the music, because they aren't listening in the best quality available?

FriedChicken
The Almighty wrote: I don't see whats the problem in other people having mp3's when you have a better flac yourself.

What about people who put their stuff on cassette, so they can listen with their walkmans

Good observation, but still, we must remember that copying from tape to tape still loses quality. Converting from tape > WAV > FLAC is the best way to go, exactly as you did for the Robert Plant / Roger Taylor show.

FriedChicken
The Almighty wrote: "I'm not trying to be arrogant. I'm trying to get the policies changed here, because EVERYONE in the end will benefit." Yeah I understand that. But whats the problem if besides a flac there's also an mp3 version uploaded for those who want it. In the end it's the flac version that will be loved around traders.

Sir GH

ah yeah
wrote: Then let's flood the announce section with FLAC shares, and maybe then *we* will be the majority. Nothing wrong with trying!

L-R-TIGER1994 wrote: So this is the solution?then there will be "the minority" converting flac to mp3,don't worry.

In mp3 or flac? If flac, then sure, I could upload it to yousendit for you. But there's no way this show is getting converted to mp3.

L-R-TIGER1994 wrote: This place has gone disgusting,I remember the days(and many would do it as well too)when people uploaded many things and there was the ftp server as well, and you always got a "thank you"

and for the concerts you mentioned I got them already from many years ago,I'm not downloading them only to have them in the famous flac version right?.
