Did you notice that? On the album version of "Under Pressure", the bass guitar in the beginning of the song is systematicly out of tune: the second note is a half tone too low (sorry I don't know the accurate English language in musical terms). Before I never noticed that but it shocked me. As the song goes on, it is all right.
Well, if you are not a musician you will have more difficulty to notice this fact, but well, I post it in the Serious Discussion forum because it doesn't change the global quality of the song, excellent, and, of course, John Deacon was and remains, I'm sure, a great bass player :-)Please listen to the song and try to confirm? Or it is my ears which are wrong to me?
I´ve finished listen to the "Hot Space" version, and it´s OK.
Can you be more specific?- He plays the riff like he allways played. Unless there were some speed problems with the tape, it´s impossible for John to be out of tune in the beggining and then stay tuned againg (assuming he played the song in one take). But i can´t hear the out of tune problem.
Take care
I don't hear anything off about it, but maybe I'm just so used to hearing it the way it is..
Here's 4 versions of the first bass line: link
1) 1981 original version (2001 remaster)
2) 1992 'Classic Queen' remix
3) 1996 Karaoke remix (2004 remaster)
4) 1999 Mike Spencer mix (isolated bass)
If that helps anyone..

I had to listen to it 3 times to pick it up. It's pretty discreet.
