Simply beautiful and it seems that The Untold Story dvd include some material that wasn't on the original dvd from the FM boxset like the jukebox interview and the making of the documentary which makes it for me to buy the complete set when it comes out in september...
The site is a bit sluggish.. but very nice really once things load. And indeed, after checking out the clips.. it looks like Untold Story has a lot of changes.. even new narration and different music. The site made me more excited about getting the new products.. so it does the job I guess :)
*the cover art is still shite though :-P
Wow, fantastic site.
Oh damn, The Untold Sotry is looking fucking amazing!! Will I buy the CD set? Maybe... Will I buy UTS DVDs? You better be DAMN FUCKEN SURE I will!

Hmmm... what it did to me is realise ever the more that we REALY are just getting stuff that is already out there...
The untold story is NOT that different! There is only about 2 minutes- of new material...
Everything in the Box set is now being recycled seperately it seems.
Sorry for my negativism, but I realy hoped for something NEW and more exciting...
Jeron,
Absolutely.
Nice, well designed, flashy website but absolutely NOTHING of any substance whatsoever.
Once again, QPL do a great job of eliciting money from people for something that they already own. I suppose, in some respects, you have to actually give a lot of praise to a company that are so adept at re-marketing existing product. Its a great skill and an amazing way of keeping production costs down.
And as ever, no one's forcing us to buy any of this either, are they.
And still we wait for NEW product....
Ok, people who are all cynical about the site, maybe it's good for people like me, in regards to "the untold story" who've only seen the TV version and dont have the full box set. :)
Whatmusthethink,
How many books have you read about Queen and Freddie's life? One?
If so, you will already know everything that is in the "Untold Story" film. There was nothing new or interesting that hadn't already been made public.

That's like saying "Haven't you heard the songs already? No need to listen again"
The point is, it's a well-made documentary.. entertainment value there, nice interviews, stylish, movie-length. Just a matter of opinion I guess, but many of us enjoy documentaries enough to watch them more than once.
And as for it not being changed much.. again.. just from short clips it's clearly got new narration, a new opening, seems to have different musical choices.. and we know some footage was added.. whether just 10 minutes or not, I get the impression the whole thing has been reworked into more of a director's cut.
And though many love to hate him, Rudi did a fantastic job with this film.. beautifully shot and put together and I welcome a new version to make it that much more interesting to watch again. Not to mention the commentary and making-of.
And another point.. some keep saying the title 'Lover of Life, Singer of Songs' is so stupid.. in fact it dates back at least to 1992 as part of the tribute concert graphics, so it's been around awhile :-P
I can't read most of what is on the page because there is text over top of text. I also can't scroll down at all. Is it my pc or is it the website? I tried refreshing, doesn't work.
Mikahl,
I absolutely love documentaries. Especially Rock ones (The Kids Are Alright, Jimi Hendrix, Mad Dogs And Englishmen etc) that provide insight and QUALITY footage.
The Untold Story did, pretty much, neither of those things for me. ALL the information (factual) was available in various books long before the film came out. The Freddie Mercury Biography, Mercury And Me etc all covered his early life and the personal side of things FAR better.
As for the footage, well, same old re-hashing I'm afraid.
When will a QUALITY director get hold of Freddie's life and explaore it in documentary form? Someone like Murray Lerner (currently producing a new Who documentary) or Martin Scorsese (The Blues,Bob Dylan: No Direction Home) - perhaps then we will see another side....
