Anybody go to the Foo Fighters Hyde Park gig last night (Sat 17th June)? Was amazing to see Brain May and Roger Taylor join the band for the first encore and do WWRY and TYMD with the Foos drummer (Taylor Hawkins) singing!!!!!!! Prior to BM and RT coming on he did the Freddie Live Aid 'Day-O' too and then dedicated the encore to Freddie which I thought was very fitting and quite cool.
I have to say (and this my personal opinion), that bit of the gig had more energy than the entire Queen feat Paul Rodgers Hyde Park gig last year. Crowd was about 3 times the size for a start and everyone was just buzzin'.
Being a bit of a sceptic about the whole Queen feat Paul Rodgers thing, it was really nice to see Dave Grohl thank Brian May and Roger Taylor for their guest appearance as opposed to thanking 'Queen' for their guest appearance.
Lemmy from Motorhead did a guest appearance too (although not at the same time as BM & RT). Equally sweet!
Were you there? What did you think? Let's discuss...
Regrets,
1. I didn't wear shorts. Painfully hot all day
2. I didn't wear a Queen T shirt!!!!
Nice to hear they made an appearence but don't be so nasty about queen and paul rodgers' hyde park gig, be gratefull that you had a chance to see them last year...
I was there and it was an absolutely brilliant performance. Highlight of the day! Though I thought that Q+PR in Hyde Park last year was just as fantastic.
Wish I could have been there! Although at about 10 oclock, some nutter phoned me, held up the phone and started babbling something about Brian and Roger being on stage! Fair play to Dave Grohl for getting the name of his guests right though - I always knew that guy had his head on straight! ;o)
I have to agree with Fat_Buddino about Hyde Park last year. I'm glad that I went, but I don't think I'd go to see Q+PR again - it just seemed like a queen covers band to me, which I suppose is exactly what it was.
I was there, did not manage the gold circle but was in the front row against the barrier of the general admission. At one point around the time Lemmy made his cameo with the Foos one guy came flying from the crowd hurdled the barrier and disappeared into the inner circle in the blink of an eye. Respect was due. The security guys were just left standing in amazement. They did catch on and stopped the 4 or 5 other people who tried it afterwards.
I was hot and not just the music. It's probably a good thing I did not wear shorts as I would have been burnt to a crisp.
I agree that when Brian and Roger came on stage the already great show just lifted to another level. All the Foo and Motorhead fans were up for a bit of WWRY clapping and singing to TYMD (or maybe they were all there just to see Brian and Roger), even the Dah-O's got a pretty good response, but not as good as Freddie ;-)The original is still the best.
Even had a flyby of the Red Arrows whilst queuiing outside to get in, but I think that was due to the other Queen's Birthday rather than Brian and Roger.
A Great Day.
