Please dont throw tomatos at me, but there one of my favorite bands next to Queen... My favorite songs by them: Who are you My generation Tattoo Wont get fooled again Join together with the band among many others. Their lead singer has amazing vocals, and their drum player was AMAZING, so was their guitar player. Their bass player was named John like our dear John, and he was quiet like him too...lol Who are you on youtube.com link |

It did get a scathing review though in Private Eye, a UK satirical magazine. Basically the review says PT bemoans that hard rock took over from the melodic sounds of the 1960s and then points out that PT and The Who were part of that process. Can';t wait to read the book rather than the reviews! |

Tattoo... Early morning cold taxi... And all the cheap funny jingles... I can see for miles is PART of that album... I always feel weird just listening to it alone. I'm a huge fan. Queen, Black Sabbath (Ozzy/Dio) Alice Cooper, Beatles, Depeche Mode (after Vincent Clarke left), Stevie Wonder, The Who, Prince, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Waylon Jennings, Gil Scott Heron, Michael Jackson, (most) Megadeth... All seminal stuff ... F-ing changed my life and taught me new eras and ways of life Quadrophenia is one of my "desert island discs"... Pete Townshend is/was a freaking brilliant poet (solo song lyrics: A Little is Enough) John Entwistle was a huge reason I began playing bass Fav songs: Sparks, A Quick One, 905, in a hand or face, Drowned, Sea And Sand, The Punk and the Godfather, Love Reign O'er Me, Naked Eye, Heaven and Hell, Blue Red and Grey, You, The Quiet One, My Wife, The Seeker, So Sad About Us, Bargain and yes even Cobwebs And Strange I f***ing LOVE that band. Glad to have seen em when John was still alive. Pete's hearing loss has probably been why he transitioned to Fenders.... He sounded much better as a Gibson player |

I have to stick up for By Numbers here, but only partially. I don't really care for it as an album but it's got two or three great tracks on it. More to the point, I think they sounded ace at that point in their career - it's a pity they weren't turning out better work though. The thing I appreciate the most about it though is that it isn't pretending to be anything but a band making up the numbers. It's the same reason I can listen to some mid-70's Lennon stuff that some people can't digest. It's not always easy or pleasant listening, but I admire someone who can say (in song form at least) 'fuck I'm sick of doing this'. |

Endless Wire is grownup music, so for an eternal old fart like me it was a great album. Better than some of the trash that Kenney played on. Don't pick it up if you're looking for classic Who though, because it ain't. I think anyone expecting that is probably living in some kind of denial and needs to grow up. Bands just aren't going to make the same kind of music as they were making 40 years previous. |
Holly2003 03.11.2012 05:11 |
My musical purchases these days are very simple -- collecting, at usually dirt cheap prices, classic rock/blues CDs of the 60s and 70s such as Deep Purple's Machine Head deluxe edition, Clapton, Cream, Stones, Who, Zep, Alice Cooper, BB King etc., (all usually under £2 on Amazon) but also ambitious and layered rock such as King Crimson, Yes, Marillion and Genesis. My two latest choices by the Who fall into this listening pattern -- a classic rock album and one listed on various websites as ambitious, challenging, difficult to get into but ultimately rewarding. |
john bodega 03.11.2012 11:32 |
I've heard a little King Crimson that I liked, but haven't really been able to get into them. I found it a lot easier to get hooked on the Mahavishnu Orchestra's first 2 albums. Not even sure why - it's more noodling than I like in music, but somehow it works for me. |
Holly2003 04.11.2012 15:06 |

I've given Endless Wire a few listens now and I think "grown-up music" is probably the most accurate music review I've read in some time. It's very differnet to much of their rock music of the 70s. At one point they even sound a lot like Dylan! Very interesting stuff, although it has to be said the first half of the album is much stronger than the second. |
Pim Derks 08.12.2012 07:07 |
While Endless Wire is very different to their other output, I'd say it's one of their best. Sure, it's no Tommy, Who's Next or Quadrophenia - but I prefer it to albums like By Numbers, Sell Out or their Kenny Jones output. Amazing band, hope they're going to bring the Quadrophenia-tour to Europe in 2013. |
