I got a feeling that a lot of people here don't like my posts lol. And they definitely won't like this one, probably because they're closed minded and never noticed it. Anyways at the lyrics "you make me smile when I'm just about to cry" the multi tracked vocals of Freddie singing along clearly says "when I'm just about to die". He makes it a poiunt to emphasize it to. Now geniuses, don't respond until you actually listen to it because if you do you're gonna make an ass out of yourself. It's about the 27 second mark in the full demo. |

I have to admit, I was gonna rubbish this claim after taking a listen. But you know, there's definitely something there after he sings cry. But I'm really not sure if it is the word die. I'm not 100% comfortable delivering this info, but it's just me trying to lend a hand in these kind of situations. Peace, Adam. P.S. Mind you, there are no multi-tracked vocals at the part kd mentions... |

Some may not have the demo and probably don't feel like finding seeders and the rapidshare links may have dropped so here's the demo. It's 28 seconds in to the song. After the two vocal tracks sing "cry" a 3rd sings the die line. And it's not me singing it lol. If it were I'd be the best Freddie impersonator on the planet. link |

You dont need to ask brian it so clear that he sings die after cry. Didnt heard it 1st time i had this demo. good ears buddy. |
Jay Mantis 29.05.2006 17:10 |
I must admit that after hearing the demo 3 times with headphones you can hear him say something that sounds like die. On the other hand seeing as it's a multitrack vocal mix he could've just made a small mistake on the 2e take, mumbeling the last word. |
JeroenG 29.05.2006 18:04 |
I have very good ears too (I'm a musician, what else would you expect, hahaha) and I must admit that I hear 'die' too there. It's indeed quite obvious to hear I think. On the other hand that doesn't have to mean it is some cryptic message or something like that. I've heard people using this kind of sentences before when talking/singing about how loved ones can make them happy. p.s. I'm gonna do something even more tricky: I think that all vocals are singing 'DIE' on that line, not only the one that can be heard a little bit after the other ones. |
Sherwood Forest 29.05.2006 18:33 |
i heard that too, and theres a version of him singing it with those words |
Forever88 29.05.2006 20:00 |
it says cry and die, more or less at the same time. i heard about this a while back and listened to the demo to be sure. |
it was electric7 29.05.2006 20:02 |
Sorry I'm like terrible with bootlegs and stuff but on the REAL song for the Innuendo album I hear cry, are you talking about other ones? |
Wilki Amieva 30.05.2006 01:03 |
kdj2hot, you are indeed right. It is just one of the vocal takes in the multitrack, which can be heard on Freddie's original demo. In fact, I believe I have pointed this out before. |
The Real Wizard 30.05.2006 01:11 |
I don't know what everyone's afraid of... In one channel he says "die", and in the other channel he says "cry". Don't be afraid of the stepfords, or whatever it is! But I wouldn't consider it a cryptic message. I'm quite sure he didn't intend for this version to be heard by thousands of fans. |
MOANZONE TWAT 30.05.2006 06:48 |
Actually after doing an analysis of this, i also read something about this years ago, and i beleive what you hear is a mistake in the cueing of the spoken part, when you hear the "Die" part, is actually Freddie saying the first part of the word "Delilah", like "Deli" this was a mistake from the person in control of the cues and such. |

magicalfreddiemercury 30.05.2006 07:47 |
Well, it certainly is there, but why can't it be because that's the way Freddie wrote it? Maybe he simply changed it to the version we know because 'cry' felt better to him than 'die'. No (intentional) message, just the way his love for his cat made him feel. |
Wilki Amieva 30.05.2006 08:33 |
Sorry, but it does not sound as a cue error. And "...lih..." would be very difficult to confuse with "die" - not for the speech itself, perhaps, but for the music. We are talking about a "die" that goes more or less IN TIME with "cry" in the DEMO - not about a later "ha..." or something like that. |
Donovan Yaciuk 30.05.2006 10:31 |
"You're hearing it because you WANT to. If you want it to be there, yes, it's there. Quite a common psychological phenomenon." I didn't want to hear it, and I did. What kind of psychological phenomenon is that? The person who originally posted this is completely right. It's odd how one or two people completely closed their minds and said the poster was wrong before they even listened to the track. Another interesting psychological phenomenon. |

That doesn't make sense. The fact is he said it. Didn't he tell Brian that he shouldn't delay his album because he wouldn't be able to get better publicity. More likely he was still fleshing out the lyrics, that's suypported by the evidence that in the same channel he sings "you make me laugh when I cry". Seems to make sense "you make me smile when I'm just about to die-you make me laugh when I'm about to cry". But what doesn't make sense is saying he doesn't say die. I can't comprehend how or why you would even want to argue that after listening to it. |

Well, as being one of the audio experts on the board, I'm confident that the demo, 100%, features the word "die" in it. And even the album version has part of another take mixed in after the word cry that could also be the word, die. But that one is more open to criticism. Peace, Adam. |
JeroenG 30.05.2006 18:16 |
And as I already said, I totally agree with Adam. I hear Freddie sing 'die' in the demo... and no, I don't think there is any hidden message in it at all. And if other people don't hear 'die' ... it's alright with me too. And yes again, I dó have very good ears. I'm a musician, partly for living... play in a band, conduct an orchestra and I'm a jury for a children singing contest which is on national TV each year... Guess they wouldn't have asked me if I didn't have good ears. |

For what it is worth, I hear "get down". The "get" is underneath "cry" and the "down" follows. Listen to the way he sings "like it" later in the song. It sounds more like "lahk" - kinda the way he sings thru-out the song. With that, "down" has a touch of "dahwn" in it. Make any sense? Listen to it again. |
