For my birthday, my brother took me to a midnight showing of this movie, and I have to say, I thought it was great! I had my doubts at first, even before footage was available to see (I HATE the director, and am not fond of the writers either), but they were washed away within the first ten minutes of the flick. There were some things that I would have done differently had I made the movie, and some cheesy stuff toward the beginning, but they weren't big enough gripes to ruin it for me. The climax was awesome. I won't go into ANY details, but I think it was a fitting end to the trilogy. It was better than the first, and on par with the second (maybe even a little better; I'd have to see it again to be sure). I like the fact that (unlike in the first two) you actually get the feeling that nobody will be safe by the end. It had a very 'Wild Bunch' feeling to it for a while. Go. See it. As soon as you can. That is all... |

I hear he's very good on set, a little second-guessing, but he gets a lot of opinions which is very refreshing. As far as the writers ... I'm working with Simon on a project right now, he told me a few weeks back that X-3 looks pretty good, although he did admit the final act was somewhat generic, as it is an action movie. I'm probably going to see it tonight :) |

... yes. But there are going to be 2 more spinoffs probably -- Wolverine and Magneto -- and who knows about a 4th? |

All I've heard from places I trust is that it's a big letdown in the story department. If you like the action, fair enough. But apparently the first ten minutes are the best, i.e. the de-aging scene and finding Jean Grey, plus the boy and his wings scene. Such a shame. Apparently, the writing's fault. Not Brett, which is kinda cool to know. Peace, Adam. |

Saw the midnight show. Thought it was pretty good. Did everyone stay at the end of the credits to see the "secret" scene? Lots of people left in our showing, but I knew ahead of time to stay and it was a good thing I did stay! |

Peace, Adam.It sounds like utter crap to me... the first two really were pretty frigging good movies, but they keep bowing down to that idiot Halle Berry just because she won an Oscar. They should have fired her after her stupid demands during the 2ND movie, never mind this one. It's utter tripe... they used the 'juggernaut bitch' line which is just pathetic, and *Rogue gives her powers away just so she can shack up with that weedy ice dude*??? The fuck??? No frigging way I'm spending money on this crap, I'll happily wait till someone I know rents it, and then if I'm wrong I'll report back here and say "I was wrong, I'll never second-guess a film again before seeing it", but just like with the new Hitchhikers Movie, I'll be *right*, and save myself $15 in the process. |

Things I didn't like: ***SPOILERS BELOW*** ....... ..... .... The way they killed of Scott - how cheap was that? I know that the actor was busy with working on "Superman," but I thought it was very cheap how he was only in two scenes for the movie. How they had Rogue give in her powers, even though they have never given her character the attention that she deserves (Why Anna Paquin - WHY?!) It's as if the essential point of all the movies has been to never change yourself and always be proud of being what you are....then all of the sudden it's "Eh, I don't like myself *that* much, so I'll go ahead and change who I am just for my current boyfriend." How they completely ruined Mystique's character. Why did they bother having her in the movie when she would only have two scenes? She was one of my favorite characters and they really ruined something good there. It upset me how they changed the story of Jean Grey and Cyclops. In the comics they got married and had a family, but in this one they just decide to kill them both - WHY!? It seems like a lot of things that were done in the movie were done for sheer shock value. Killing off Professor X in such an anti-climactic way was disappointing to me and left me questioning why they had to do it in such a way that seemed so pointless. ...don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the movie, but all in all it was pretty flawed and certainly the first and second films were better. I wish they hadn't gotten a new director, especially one that had worked on "Fantastic Four." Yikes. |

I agree with how scott was killed was lame. but the way the movie ended does give hope that more will come. with magneto seemly getting his powers back ,it seems that the DNA thing is only temporaly. I didnt like how there was no Nightcrawler, Colus(sp) should have been used more, you never got to see cerbus( or was it competly destroyed from the xmen 2 when it was taken apart? WTF happend to Gambit? thought he was supposed to be in this movie. |
Daburcor? 29.05.2006 16:48 |
There is a Magneto movie in the works, as well as one for Wolverine. I doubt there will be any more actual X-Men movies though.

WTF happend to Gambit? thought he was supposed to be in this movie.- I agree it was good that they maybe gave Magneto his powers back, but the fact that Professor X is very nearly gone is disappointing. I imagine all we will have of him now is a voice-over of his new self or flashbacks. Nightcrawler was written out completely b/c the actor hated putting the suit on. He said it was too stressful and only agreed to doing one movie. Which sucks, cos he was a fave character. And Colossus was just not given enough air-time, I guess. Gambit wasn't put in it b/c, supposedly, they didn't know how to not have him look silly, since his power is "different." I think it's a shame he wasn't included. As for Jean dying, she already died once in the second film and it was great to have the hope that she'd be back. Bringing her back again now is just too redundant. If you count, there were five mutants in this movie that were lost either through dying or losing their powers: Rogue, Professor X, Mystique, Cyclops, and Jean Grey. Isn't this a bit much? |
wstüssyb 29.05.2006 20:22 |
Yes, but we don't know if these actors wanted to play in another movie which Dan said, a spin off would be something, something better then nothing, I for one will go to a open night of Wolverine's movie and a Magneto movie, I cant recall but I think in the comic Xavier died and mostly comunicated via his voice from the dead...I could see that in a Wolverine movie. If the lose of power is temporaly, Rogue can get her powers back so can Mystiqe(sp) I'm hoping she comes back, I think in the cartoon series and comic series, Mystiqe is Rogues real mother. The thing about these X men movies is so many get killed off, I remember Sabertooth (who was killed in the 1st one) was allmost always a fixture and Wolverines main enemy. I do hope in the spin off some of the other chars come back, like Beast, Colusses(sp) Be nice if Magneto movie was his past and how he and Xavier ended up tother, and built Cerbus and the falling out. |

Okay, now that I have some time, here's my full two-cents on the X-Men 3 movie experience: This movie, through character deaths and the mutant cure (which is an idea from Joss Whedon's AWESOME Astonishing X-Men book), fixed something that let me down in the previous two. It gave me the feeling that no-one was safe, and therefore made it more enjoyable, as I never knew WHAT was going to happen. Who was going to die? Who would be cured? In the other two movies (that I also love) I didn't get that. I always had the feeling that they'd all come out unscathed, and everything would be fine. I mean, c'mon! They're the friggin' X-Men! But, that starts to get old. The characters are always in (pretty much) the same place they were in at the beginning of the movie, and that always takes people (like me) out of the story. The stakes have to be higher. There has to be a real sense of danger, otherwise, most movie fans will be let down. Look at the Batman movies. The Joker DIES in the FIRST one! He is one of the most MAJOR of major characters in all of comic book history, but in a movie, the stakes have to be higher, thus, the Joker had to take a dive. Literally. In the X-Men comics, they've killed off most (if not all) of the main X-Men in one timeline or another. Take 'Days Of The Future Past' for example. Most of the major X-Men are dead (more or less) from the get go. And I don't even KNOW how many times they've killed Jean Grey (remember, she IS the Phoenix after all). With movies (for the most part), you only get about two hours to tell a story that, in a comic book, could easily take up a couple years worth of issues (depending on writers/atrists). And you have to take into account the percentage of your audience who hasn't read the source material, while still staying close enough to that same material to keep the established fans happy. I guess what I'm really saying is to try and look at the X-Men movies as an alternate timeline. Something all their own and original. If you can do that, you'll be less inclined to be upset about certain things, and more inclined to have a good time at the movies. To me, all three of these movies are yet ANOTHER writer's take on the X-Men I've loved all my life, and there have been MANY before (in comics and other media) that have done FAR worse than these guys... and I am anything BUT a fan of the writers of this movie. And ah don't like th' director none too good neither. ;) |

Saw it earlier today with a friend. Overall, not really bad. But nowhere near great. And before I say anything else, I know nothing about the comics. A lot of nice action scenes and some misc things that I also liked. But mainly, lots of missed opportunities. Miss James already stated a lot of what I thought. But I suppose the biggest could be the Phoenix idea. I know zip about the Phoenix stories. Nada... But from what I hear, they're BIG and could be the source of a great story if tapped. Even my friend who was looking forward to it more than me, left feeling kinda bummed. He kept saying how short it was. It's 1 hour and 36mins long, btw, which I guess is pretty short for such a film like this. I don't know why, but I didn't notice how short it was. When I told him Fox had rushed it into cinemas, he began to take some solace in knowing that maybe they'll release an extended cut on dvd. A lot of plot and heart was missing from what had come before. But I left entertained and there are some nice little chuckle moments. And if an extended dvd does come out, I hope there is enough material to flesh things out more. Peace, Adam. |

I don't really think one would have to know *anything* about the comics to critique the movies. If the movie can't stand on it's own without mention of the comics then it probably sucks. The first two were pretty good. This 3rd one just looks like shit... every new thing I hear about it makes me want to see it less. The worst thing is, it's like that Star Wars Holiday Special, you can pretend it didn't happen but it did. Though, I still stand by Kelsey Grammer, you can't go wrong with that guy. |
Lester Burnham 03.06.2006 02:13 |
I wasn't impressed. I love the first one, haven't yet seen the second one but have it sitting on my desk right now, and I went to this one thinking it would be great. Most of the dialog was laughable, and I really cannot stand Halle Berry. She became the focal point of the movie. I didn't like the fact that Wolverine kept showing weakness... for crying out loud, he's a mutant, not a human! His course of action when overwhelmed is to kick some ass, not weep. And I was so pissed off with both Xavier dying and Magneto losing his powers, though the final pre-credits scene was good. And the post-credit scene, too, left some sort of hope. But I couldn't help but agree with Wolverine when he told Storm, "It's over." Don't get me wrong, it was an okay movie, but I was very disappointed. There was no character development. And was it wrong that I was cheering for Magneto to win? |

went and saw it yesterday in a really cool theatre at atlantic station i have read lots of peoples thoughts on the movie prior to going and tried to keep an open mind i must admit i really enjoyed it now i have never read the comics and i found the first film rather tedious and boring... loved xmenII and think this one was better then the first-- i forgot about the secret scene at the end so i *f* up there-- i guess some things that bothered me is in this one there were so many new characters... with jean i thought hey if your suddenly going to say there is a split personality around why dont i recall any hints of it in the other two movies... but a woman sucking the life out of a man,... come on i hear yall complaining about that daily *LOL* ok ok miss james and vice versa *giggle* the 'fitting in' arch was quite moving.... i spent years trying to fit in and be like everyone else... so that touched home a bit... obviously i dont worry about that no more |
