I apologise for posting this question in wrong forum, but I have here more chances for reliable answer than in General.
Can someone explain me why there are no any proper extended/12" versions of songs from Innuendo (and MIH)? They've started to release such tracks from Hot Space days on each album, but nothing comes with Innuendo and Made In Heaven (if you don't count that explosive version and a huge dance party around You Don't Fool Me)... Any ideas or exact answers?
Thanks in advance and sorry if this question has been asked before!
I don´t know an exact answer, but i think it has to do with the feeling of the songs. In more dance-oriented songs, the extended versions are easy to do without craping too much. But with "Innuendo" and "MIH" there aren´t that many songs to do that (apart from "Ride the Wild wind").
Or, no patiente at the time to think about it (mentally exhausted because of Freddie´s illness) !!
Only they can answer, really!!
Take care
Well, there is the single version of It's A Beautiful Day. Not actually extended mix, but different from both album version. There's also the Hollywood mix of ICLWY.
Anyway, I don't know the answer to your question:(. I'd love to hear some 12" versions from Innuendo, though.
Extended versions of tracks like Scandal, One Vision, Friends Will Be Friends weren't too much dance oriented... :) Or Liar, Power To Love from The Cross...
There's a lot of different edits, as August R. wrote - single mixes, vinyl edits, few HR mixes etc., but still - I can't understand why ain't any extended tracks... :-\
I don't think anyone in the band ever said why they stopped making or releasing them. I assumed they just lost interest in them. Which is a shame because I always like the extended or 12 inch versions of their singles. I liked some better than the album or 7 inch versions.
Between The Miracle and Innuendo the entire Queen catalog was re-edited and the 12'' tracks added to the original albums (Those from the eighties). Innuendo and Made in heaven were released after that re-edition.
That's why...

Most of the extended versions were released on 12" singles or as B-sides in the days when singles were released, i.e. in the 80s, not when they were re-edited. For instance, The Invisible Man 12" appeared on ORIGINAL CD album released in 1989, Scandal 12" was released in 1989, etc. etc. etc. Queen's first extended mix was released in 1982 (Back Chat).
PabloArg data is wrong, but the idea behind it is indeed correct. The songs would not have timing restrictions in the CD era (a vinyl could only handle about 45 mins of music in good quality), so the 'extended' versions where, in fact, the ones used in the albums. The whole 12"/maxi concept was abandoned in the early '90s by most of the mainstrean artists.

Wow, that was fast service and with a smile. Nice to see Brian using that soapbox of his to actually answer a reasonable question instead of bitching or pitching. Yay Brian.
And I'm happy to see I pretty well called it right. Yay me.
And while I'm at it, yay Serry.
Though not really extended in any appreciable way, I've always considered the "Innuendo (Explosive Version)" as extended, as it was only available on the 12" and CD singles, and not the 7". I once put together a two CD collection for road trips of there extended/12" material. It ran thusly:
Disc 1
01) Staying Power (Extended Version)
02) Back Chat (Extended Version)
03) Radio Ga Ga (Extended Version)
04) I Want To Break Free (Extended Mix)
05) It's A Hard Life (Extended Version)
06) Hammer To Fall (Headbanger's Mix)
07) Man On The Prowl (Extended Version)
08) Keep Passing The Open Windows (Extended Version)
09) One Vision (Extended Vision)
10) A Kind Of Magic (Extended Version)
11) A Dozen Red Roses For My Darling (Unlisted Extended Version)
12) Friends Will Be Friends (Extended Version)
Disc 2
01) Pain Is So Close To Pleasure (Extended Mix)
02) One Year Of Love (Extended Version)
03) Breakthru (Extended Version)
04) The Invisible Man (12" Version)
05) Scandal (12" Mix)
06) Innuendo (Explosive Version)
07) We Will Rock You (12" Ruined Remix)*
08) You Don't Fool Me (Late Mix)
09) Another One Bites The Dust (Team One Black Rock Star Main Pass Mix) (with Wyclef Jean, Pras & Free)
10) Under Pressure (Club 2000 Mix) (with David Bowie)
11) Flash (Extended Mix) (with Vanguard)
*This is the version on the 12" US-only promo, not the CD single.
I didn't put the "Machines (or 'Back To Humans') (Instrumental)" on it because it wasn't an exclusive 12" track (it also appeared on the US 7" single).
