I know it's an old topic, but I wanted to read a fresh list of bands that Queen fans find similar to Queen. There can be only one, we all know that, but what other acts sound Queen like in one way or another? Please answer only from your opinion and not what you have heard. In other words, none of this dumbass, "The Darkness" crap unless you have heard them. The Queen comparisons, from what I have heard, are way off base. Anyways, who would you think has Queenisms in their sound? My list would be: Def Leppard Styx The Beatles(even though they came before Queen) Rufus Wainright ELO Garbage(although I am not sure why, just seems so) Living Colour U2 David Bowie Guns N' Roses(in a small way only) Duran Duran That's about it that I can think of. Def Leppard seems to be the closest Queen-like act out there because of their heavy production emphasis, wall like guitar sound and architecture, and vocal heavy style. |

Electric 7, pick up Living Colour's second album, Time's Up. It's an amazing album and at least 10 years before it's time. Drummer Will Calhoun's playing is like the Hammer of the Gods and Solace of You is still one of my all time favourite tunes! Seriously, it is a GREAT album and not hip hop!!! |

<font color=green>Bren<font color=orange>ski wrote: Muse sound much mor elike ueen than any of that listI second that. When I saw the subject title, they were going to be my input. They don't directly sound like Queen (in a way that some people think The Darkness do) but more as a band, and a class live act, the way they produce their music (very grand, creative, different genres, yet sounding like themselves at the same time). Cracking vocals, brilliant musicians etc. |

The Darkness, although they seem to imitate Queen in certain aspects. Not really much of a fan. |
Oszmercury 12.05.2006 10:46 |
Well, Queen sounds like Beach Boys, in terms of vocal harmonies, or Crosby Stills Nash. Check 1971 Beach Boys Sunflower, or Carl and The Passions by the same Beach band. the difference is that Beach Boys or C.S.N did their harmonies live as well as the studio |

I can't believe no-one has mentioned Extreme. Just listen to the '3rd' side of III Sides to Every Story, the production is just like classic Queen. |

i think sweet sounds a lot like queen. queen is better though ;) |

Scorpions. Klaus Meine's vocals are similar to Freddie's,especially in "Still Loving You";) |

elo sounds the most like queen of any other group. i think kansas song carry on wayward sun sounds like queen in the one lead guitar part.george michael sounds the next closest in careless whisper and another wam song forgot the name, but dosnt sound like freddie when hes doin Queen music.p. s. mad the swine knows his shit!! |
Nuno 16.05.2006 15:21 |
Extreme without a doubt Some vocal harmonies and - parts of the 3rd side on III Sides (not all of it though) the solo for Who Cares is so Brian May And I believe Mack produced their first album and there are loads of layered harmonies on that album |

I think Jellyfish sounded queenish on their debut album. Does anyone know Jellyfish? |

Mr Drowse wrote: I think Jellyfish sounded queenish on their debut album. Does anyone know Jellyfish?Yes. Jellyfish sounded a LOT like their influences I.e. QUEEN, ELO, BEATLES, BEACH BOYS... Their album SPILT MILK is still highly regarded in MIXING communities (*audio) in that it retained the characteristics of every voice and instrument without salvaging any space on the recording track. It's a phenomenal job of engineering and recording. *(still resurrecting old topics because they were relevant) |

mad.the.swine 28033 wrote: elo sounds the most like queen of any other group.think that should read "queen sounds like ELO" ELO's first album preceded Queen's first by two years. as did one or two others in the OP's list - Bowie and Styx for example. as for bands that genuinely do sound like queen - there are two albums by a band called "Storm" from '78 & '81 - these do sound like queen mashed with Zep |
matt z 03.06.2015 06:27 |
^ Brenski. Never been able to find any album by a band simply titled STORM online. Just a Norwegian metal band. Care to throw an assist? |
brENsKi 03.06.2015 09:52 |
you'll also find elements of Boston, Zep, Supertramp, UFO & Styx in there too most of the first album is quite "Runaways" in style - but some passages/melodies/ have very queen-like elements You Pity Me Pez Come Home Anything For Your Love Hand In Hand Play With Me What Do You Like these are the only YT i could find link link link link |
Apocalipsis_Darko 03.06.2015 10:26 |
Jellyfish, without doubt. Muse has a lot of influences, the biggest Radiohead and Queen without doubt. Mother Love Bone, the singer, as a glam rocker. Previous band to Pearl Jam. Some Guns N' Roses songs, and the list goes on and on... |
brENsKi 03.06.2015 11:20 |
Jellyfish? hmmm, not really queen-like i'd say 66-69 Beatles fused with the Manic St Preachers |

brENsKi wrote: Jellyfish? hmmm, not really queen-like i'd say 66-69 Beatles fused with the Manic St PreachersEh... jellyfish..... QUEEN, Beatles, Moody Blues, Beach Boys, Roxy Music, Badfinger, Harry Nilsson etc. . They only had two albums. The first actually being the stronger of the two since it wasn't quite so derivative. I think that in starting their second Album they were down to about 2 writers. (I'm probably wrong) It was kitsch and INCREDIBLY recorded (SPILT MILK) I mean sonically. . You can play it on ANY system and it'll sound clear, clean and all the dynamics are still there. Kinda like an MJ recording with Bruce Swedien at the helm. Thanks for the STORM links. Not even a wiki. I should have checked Amazon. Interesting |

My Chemical Romance - "Welcome To The Black Parade" (if "Who Wants To Live Forever" was written in the late '00s) Robby Valentine - "Magical Memories" (this is PURE '70's Queen) - "Now Or Never" (Made In Heaven-ish Queen) - in general, 80% of Valentine's stuff nods at Queen Freddie Nelson & Paul Gilbert - "I'm Not Addicted" (sounds like something off "The Game") "Paris Hilton Look-a-like" (apart from Gilbert's noodling could have been something ranging from "Jazz" up to "NOT-DISCO Hot Space") Muse - "United States Of Eurasia" (post-Innuendoish I'd say) Foxy Shazam - "Holy Touch" (2010's Queen back to some easy listening pop-rock, written by Deacon and arranged by Mercury/May) The Darkness - already posted ;) The Sweet - looks there was some sort of a feud between them in the '70s ("Queen are a bunch of wankers" or something like that)...who came first?...I used to say that Sweet were some kind of 'baddest brothers' to Queen...I find them awesome, Sparks - if Mercury was american and then transplated in the UK ("This Town Ain't Big Enough For The Both Of Us") Jellyfish - "Hush" (Queen's '70's ballads transplanted in the early '90s rock-pop scene) Blitzen Trapper - "Destroyer Of The Void" (if "Queen II" was more country-ish and less "dreamy") Bryan Scary And The Shredding Tears - "Imitation Of The Sky" (if Paul McCartney produced '71-'74 Queen...with the sort of "vintage revival" production which is common nowadays) Extreme / Dream Theater / etc. have surely absorbed the "Queen Lesson", but gave it their personal twist re-elaborating it in their own style due to their notable musicianship The Ark / Fun / Keane / George Michael / Mika / Neon Trees / Brazil and many others surely bear more than one resemblance, but not in a strong manner, I believe... |

Foxy Shazam's unstoppable is very queen like too, even the look of the singer in the video is very Freddie like IMO. |
