Dear you lot... I have a friend who is writing a school project about Queen, and she needs a poem about them... So i wondered if anybody knows a good one? Now please be just slightly serious... |

How about this - Regal and dandy, Breaking new ground. Four stars, in their own right, With an enviable sound. Hard rock and ballads They performed it all. They even tried disco And survived the fall. Giving in not an inch, Giving all to the fans Legends in their own time Conquering nearly all lands. Their music lives on, Has indeed been revived. Despite rap, pop and boy bands, Queen has survived. |

Where does the delusional thought that a poem has to rhyme come from? 99% of the people here seem to think so. Newsflash: that's been outdated for over half a century. |

"Poetry without rules is like a tennis match without a net." - Robert Frost. No, a poem hasn't got to rhyme. But I particuarly like Dylan Thomas's "Do Not Go Gentle into that Good Night" and it's in a very strict format (villanelle) that includes rhyming as just one of the "rules". A good poem is a good poem. Taste in poetry style is like taste in musics, not "better", necessarily, but different. Personally, I'm all for rhyme and metre, but that's just me. |

This is just a joke poem that I made up when I was feeling kind of..hyper :p :b Roger rides my caboose, As Brian ties the noose, And Freddie takes his clothes off and lets loose, While John shares similarities with a goose It's a joke remember, so anyone who gets EXTREMELY annoyed with rhyming poems shouldn't have another fit. |

Wait - why can't your friend write a poem of her own? Is she not (not insulting) good in that area? |

I agree, poems don't have to rhyme to be good, but you do have to admit they're very catchy if they do rhyme. |

Good poem! I especially like the part about (C)rap, pop and boy bands....isn't there anyone else who still thinks Vanilla Ice is the biggest cretin in the world for stealing the baseline for Under Pressure, just so he could turn it into some crap about him "grabbin his nine", which he's probably never even seen in his whole life? |

Nathan wrote: I agree, poems don't have to rhyme to be good, but you do have to admit they're very catchy if they do rhyme.Quite contrary. A poem which rhymes automatically sounds corny. There are exceptions to this rule, but they are few and far between (the recently named 'Do Not Go Gently...' by Dylan Thomas is one of those few). |
Mrs. Snugglebunny 04.05.2006 08:44 |
Besides, there are other types of sound patterning that can succesfully used in poems other than just simple rhyme, like assonance or consonance etc. Depending on the context of course, but in my opinion they are not quite as obvious (and ridiculous) as rhyme. |
Poo, again 04.05.2006 10:02 |
I believe good poems should rhyme. |
evv95 04.05.2006 10:21 |
Well... If we think that song lyrics are also poems, Queen have lots of songs that rhyme. Just to name a few: Killer Queen, Too Much Love Will Kill You, First and Second part of Bohrap, etc... Obviously, not all Queen lyrics use the form ABCB (like this poem) I write some poems too, just for fun and I can't avoid rhymes. Anyway, good poem! |

TQ, no offense, but your comments on poetry are just ridiculous. A perfectly rhymed poem in perfect meter in which all the words are perfectly placed and carefully chosen is just as impressive as the most poignant piece of free verse. You can spot a good poet as he can rhyme in a set meter without coming off as silly or ridiculous. Of course, this is all subjective. Poetry is very open in this way - nothing is outdated, everything is novel. |

Alright, before you read the following 'poem' you can get some paper and some pressents, and start wrap them while you read.. Because yhis is SO brilliant, that I expect to be named King of Queenzone after this.. Or just total 100% empress if you like ;) This thing called Queen I just can't handle it This thing called Queen I must get more of it I´m so ready Crazy little thing called Queen. There went my Freddie He knew how to rock 'n' roll He drives me crazy He gives me hot and cold fever Then he leaves me in a cool cool sweat They´re all so cool, relaxed, just hip with their lovely tracks I take a cd, gets high When the music takes me a long euphoric ride Could´t be more readdy Crazy little thing called Queen. As I said, dont hold back with showing me how extraordinarily brilliant that was.. You are even aloud to kiss my feet! :o.. But only because I´m in a good mood today, so you better hurry! And dont be late with the crowning thing.. |

Here's my poetic addition. Hope you like it. Freddie and Brian Roger and John Queen is their name But now Freddie's gone. Rock band extraordinaire We all must agree From 'Bo Rhap' to 'Rock You' 'Back Chat' to 'Save me'. Their songs were inspiring Sometimes fun, sometimes strange Roger's drums, Johnny's bass Freddie's great vocal range. And not to forget Brian With his hot guitar licks Oh! and Freddie's tight red pants Yeah! we all got our kicks. Queen's the band for all times Years have passed and still yet They will stay in our minds and our hearts No! We will not forget. |
