Thought I'd do it before someone else did
Going off track here, but how is David Tennant as the new Dr. Who? We are currently halfway through the series with Christopher Eccleston, and I am rather fond of him.
Well the fanboys who *loved* Ecclestone all pretended they "never liked Eccleston anyway" when Tennant came along, so I guess Tennant is pretty popular (either that or the fanboys just praise whoever the current actor is).
IMO Tennant is a bit too much of a generic traditional Doctor (what with him being a massive fan in real life) whereas as Eccleston (who knew nothing about the show) brought a really fresh, never seen before or since, aproach.
Tennant's a good actor and pretty charismatic though, which is the main thing.
Yes Eccleston was really good a bit shit he didnt do another series his reason for not doing it was it takes 9 months per season for 13 episodes. Tennant is good but that spark just isnt quite there for me we're two episodes in here in uk so lets wait & see
Speaking as a substantial Doctor Who fan, I would say Eccleston was the best. Tennant is very good, but he'll never be as good as Eccleston for me. I am a bit pissed off Tennant doesn't use his lovely Paisley accent.
Anyway, does anyone else think that Dr Brian May MBE would make a good Doctor Who? I have thought this for a while, I think he suits the role.
I think he'd be like Alan Davies would have.. too reserved and soft spoken... and whenever he came across Daleks attacking the earth, instead of trying to defeat the Daleks and save the humans, he'd just be like, "so, in a way, you're both right!", like when those people asked him who sang Sheer Heart Attack.
Maybe if you could capture Brian's mentality when he's on stage and have him behave like that 24/7, then he could be Doctor...

Well. As a substantial Dr Who fan, could you remind me of something. Am I right in remembering from the days when I watched Jon Pertwee on, that a Time Lord has a limited number of regenerations?
Is it 13 or 14, or am I completely wrong here?
Waaaay off topic and not the correct forum. But like I give a shit?
Cheers
P
I always thought it was nine, but I am not really much on Who lore. I'm more of a bystander.
I still think Brian's got the hair for it though. Wrap a scarf around his neck and he's ready to go.

Yep, that's right. I think they'll change the rules, though, to prolong the run of the show. I wouldn't mind doing the job at some stage.
Getting further off topic (this would be more at home in Personal, rather than Serious Discussion) who else thought the film sucked? I liked McGann in the role, but the story was far too Hollywood for me.

Yeah, but I think it was important - the viewing figures showed that it was still a popular concept, even if it had gone off with Sylvester McCoy. The comeback started there.
I think the Beeb was right to throw some money at this. The days of Blue Peter-esque TV with Crossroads motel sets are long gone.

I take it by now you've realised that here in the UK, we are on a new series and David Tennant has taken over the role.

Yes I did. The US SciFi channel is currently in the middle of the Christopher Eccleston season. I assumed when I saw the list of Dr. Who posted earlier that the new season started in the UK. That's why I was asking how the new Dr. Who was compared to Eccleston.
