Well, last night I fulfilled a long held ambition and went to see BB King on his 'farewell tour' at the NEC in Birmingham. He was sharing the bill with Gary Moore, who, quite frankly, was just boring.
However, BB and his band more than made up for it. It's amazing to think that this guy is 80 years old and has to sit down to play because his knees aren't what they used to be, yet he managed to hold all 10000 people who were there absolutely captive. Not only does he play some of the best blues guitar ever and have one of the greatest blues voices ever put on record, but he's also seriously funny - at times it was like being at a stand-up (or sit-down) comedy gig! All in all it was a cracking night, and if I got hit by a bus next week, at least I can say that I saw the King of the Blues live. I just hope that doesn't happen before I've managed to afford a Gibson Lucille!
