just wondered if the new remastered 30th anniversary edition of a night at the opera is worth getting. i am thinking about it. not so much the sound but the new videos etc that i mean. i would appreciate anyones information.
like Rick said it depends.
I spent $25 for it and only watched it twice, some footage is not from the same year as the ANATO album (1975)
if its like $12, then thats worth it, but $25 like i paid isn't
I have it, and it is fantastic.
So, I would honestly recommend you get it, for five reasons:
1. Its sound reproduction.
Even though a lot of albums are 'digitally remastered' and stuff, this is still one of the best. All 12 original tracks refurnished, much to the liking of any and all Queen fans, young and old.
2. The bonus DVD.
Each track has its own video, either featuring live footage (like '39, which takes snippets of Brian's performance from ROTC)
or archived footage. The videos for You're My Best Friend and Bohemian Rhapsody are the originals from before (the 'flames' version of Bo Rhap is on this DVD), but help round out the videos. Also, check out the video for God Save The Queen; it's from Brian's performance on the top of Buckingham Palace! (i had never seen it before!)
3. A great selection for any new fans.
Any people who are interested in getting into Queen should pick up this selection, as it is one of their most successful (and musically attractive) albums ever, and gives an insight to the early escapades of Queen. A good beginning to any collection, in my opinion.
4. Good price.
Even though this is a 30th Anniversary set, and you also get a DVD too, this set goes for about $20 here in the US, the highest i've seen so far was $25, so it's not a kick in the wallet.
5. Three words: Five point one.
The bonus DVD is fully remixed in 5.1 Surround Sound, so not only will it work with a slammin' sound setup (like mine), but it also is good for audio mixing (like if you would want to make a fan mix of something). It's pretty much like the DVD-A from a few years back, except you get some good videos too. God Save The Queen is also given a new 5.1 mix, allowing for a fantastic finish to one of the greatest albums ever.
These are the reasons why.
So, I give you these final words:
Buy it. Hear it. Love it.
If you mean the 30th Anniv CD, probably not, unless you have some major audio equipment.
If you mean the 30th Anniv DVD, then as long as you haven't already bought a NATO DVD, buy it.
Ergh, I can't believe I spent 30 dollars on a boring DVD and ANOTHER CD...There really isn't much on there, a totally unexpected thing...So yeah, it isn't worth it.
well i did get it in the end and for a pretty good £10.50 inc postage price and having seen it i would say it was worth it. the seaside rendevouz video is funny yeah!
I'm confused. I know there is a DVD-Audio version of ANATO. I know there is 'Making of ANATO' DVD. But I wasn't aware about this ANATO 30th anniversary edition. My question is:
I bumped on mercuryparadise website and I found some pictures from this DVD - link
What is strange is that some of them look like they were screenshots of the videotape, like this one - link
Does that mean that when Queen were in Ridge Farm Studio recording ANATO they filmed some material there? Is there any footage of Queen's stay there? Because some pictures looks like they were video screenshots not just regular photos.
