Most of Freddie's songs I can figure out by ear (for the most part) but 7SoR is too fast to catch. I would really appreciate some help. All I can figure is that it is set on D major and jumps to G. I would just love to be able to play the opening. Thanks for any help.
That was fairly clear, but certainly not right.
The correct riff is:
D F# A, D G B, D F# A, D G B, D F# A D
repeated twice (or 4 times), then:
D G B, D A C, D G B, D A C, D G D
repeated twice before going back to the first riff twice, then playing Em, Bm7/E then A, and then continuing into the verse...
On the studio version, the riff is in octaves. But Fred didn't play the riff with both hands simultaneously, rather he recorded the riff with just his right hand, and then recorded a second track an octave higher, again with his right hand.
Live it's obviously played in one octave with just the right hand. The left just plays the octave root notes of the chord (as Fred did with his left hand 90% of the time).
link is the best source for Queen (and other) music notation; the sheets on the site are as close as you can get to the original piano pieces, in my experience.
