hey there I recently recorded a Breakthru cover. I hope you might like it. But I'd rather warn you…my version is very personal so some people might not like it. here's the link : link let me know your thoughts For the musicians boarders : there might be some mistakes, wrong notes whatever… I don't care, as long as I have a blast playing and recording… anyway thank you for listenning :) |

You must love your guitar a wee bit much since that was hugely in my face while listening the whole time. The drums only way to breakthru (pun intended) was by the hi-hats and snare. The big problem is that your guitar is very bass heavy and above all else in the track which makes it hard to hear anything else there. I won't say anything on the arrangement apart from, not my cup of tea. Peace, Adam. |

Thanks for your comment. I'll be very honest with you, I have only one month practicing on recording software. I'm totally aware about the mixing mistakes to fix on that track. I'm not looking for excuses here I can only improve myself on recording techniques in months to come… |

Well in my opinion this is just really awesome! Since I record this type of stuff myself as well I do want to give you some advice: Try (in the verses) to lower the sound of the guitar, secondly the solo parts (and harmonies) are too loud. So you need to adjust that as well. So re-produce your song (if possible) and I really hope you will upload the improved version. So only try to adjust the volume ... I will be looking forward to hearing your new improved version soon Stefan |

Not strictly speaking a 'fan mix', but I like it! I agree with what has already been said about the levels, particularly the harmony guitar parts, which are too high in the mix, and the snare could be brighter too. I'm not over keen on the blast beats, but I like the double bass drums on certain bits. Can I ask, why did you decide on the slower tempo? I'm not saying it's bad, just that it doesn't sound quite right. I would quite like to add some drum samples to some of my mixes - can I ask what software you are using? |

Lord, I use Logic Express for my recordings. here's a pic of my home studio to this link : link My amp is missing on the pic… didn't have it at the time I shot that pic. |

Zedan, Will you upload an improved version of the song with the guitar levels adjusted? Stefan |
Suigi 28.01.2006 17:31 |
KICKASS. And it fits my vocal range perfectly, too. Thanks for the singalong opportunity. |
zedan 28.01.2006 17:58 |
Yes TRS… I definitely think about it. I might start rearrange this in a couple of days. Suigi… why don't you send me an mp3 of your vocals I could include it to my version and see if it fits or not ? |

I both do and don't like this version. The original is too 80's for my liking, I feel it could've been rockier. But your version takes it a *little* too far in another direction I don't like. Having said that, nicely done for what it is. Bravo :D |
zedan 29.01.2006 05:34 |
Zebonka … one of my main inspiration behind was a guy named Devin Townsend who kinda mixes progressive music and extreme metal. Anyway I did some arrangements on the guitar levels and uploaded the new version at the same link upper in the page. Let me know if it's ok for you. I feel a little something missing though… but I think I'm coming close from something ok |
TRS-Romania 29.01.2006 08:00 |
If I am correct you have now replaced your "new" version with adjusted audio levels? Since it does sound better... Still the solo guitar (and solo guitar harmonies) are still too loud... Can you adjust that as well? Stefan |

Lord Fickle wrote: Can I ask, why did you decide on the slower tempo? I'm not saying it's bad, just that it doesn't sound quite right.Well actually, I kinda like to break the tempo in two. In the case of Breakthru, I had this idea in mind to slow down the tempo and then make it much more heavy. Had this in mind for quite a while I must say. The original version is based on the bass line, and I thought it would be interesting to add much more guitar sticking to the keyboards… So I've decided to go that way and I'm pretty satisfied with it. I'm aware it doesn't sound quite right like you say… but there are two points which I'm faithful to : 1. You can't please everybody whichever the way you cover a song (and this go on for every other song you'll cover) 2. Is there any real interest to cover a song to be the same as the original ? Personally I don't think so. But it's a matter of taste and of point of view. |

Zedan, Did you now also adjust the solo guitar and harmonie solo's ? I wasnt quite sure reading your post if you have made a re-newed version If yes, please confirm here and which link to use Stefan PS Zedan, can you comment on the songs I have recently uploaded in the Fanmix forum (the "keep smiling" thread and the "F*cking fab version" ... I'd like to hear your comments as well |
zedan 30.01.2006 18:13 |
Yes I did Stefan… At first lead and harmonies guitars were low in the mix in my opinion… so I just raised these a little bit upper in the mix to give more relief… I think now it works ok. by the way post my thoughts where you asked me too |

Zedan, THIS ROCKS!!! ... really, get somebody to sing to your version ... in my opinion i love the right-left panning in the channels at the beginning ... the guitar is now adjusted and also the solo and harmonies.... (and I love the part at 1:27 min! that just way rocks!) ... do try to improve the part at 3:48 (the bass guitar bit), it has to be put more up-front or heavier ; the bass guitar I mean!) dude (if I may call you so haha), you did a great job, and I hope you appriciated our input ... I have to say the change in volume has made your version really different in the best way possible! Stefan PS without kidding: this is one of the most original "fan versions" I have ever heard. I love the heavy guitars, the "organ", the drums, the harmonies and the key change at 3:16 is just awesome PS2 Would I challenge you to make another "zedan version" of another Queen song? I would love to hear it |

Great, Zedan. If Brian & Roger hear this they could do a rock version like this in the next tour dates! Only dreaming!! |
Suigi 31.01.2006 14:29 |
After listening to myself sing along again, and realizing exactly how crappy my voice is, I think it'd be best if we let this one sit. I'd rather embarrass myself in karaoke with a bunch of drunken friends who won't remember it, than get any electronic evidence of my suckage. |

Perfectly done...this version rocks. I like this one. Hope to hear more of this! |
[ze dan] 09.02.2006 03:54 |
I had a contribution from a guitar player friend who did a solo let me know your thoughts link I was about to low it a little bit in the mix but I'm not sure… what do you think ? |
TRS-Romania 09.02.2006 16:57 |
i do admire his technique and his talent, but it does not fit the song completely ...more or less it sounds a too "marschall" sound to me, instead of the "fat" guitar sounds that the original sound is like .... again, great technique , but there is no "warmth" in the guitar solo... Stefan |
