I actually heard he is straight. I know he didn't do anything with Freddie. He even said he'd "Never in a million years want to sleep with Freddie" |
TRS-Romania 05.01.2006 11:25 |
Peter had a girlfriend in the seventies... but he is in fact gay (correct me if I am wrong), but was neither freddie's type or he fancied Freddie But anyway to me it doesnt matter if he is gay or not, I merely answered your question Stefan |

It doesn't really matter what his sexual orientation is but I remember reading at the begining of his book how he was with a "girlfriend" around the time he met Freddie in 79. But he also makes no mention of any girls or guys in his life during his years working for Freddie. I think Freddie kept him too busy and probably very entertained to find time for any personal relationships. |

well when your on the road for all those years that Queen went on tour, its very hard to keep or start relationships. |
Sebastian 05.01.2006 13:26 |
He's said several times that he's gay but he wasn't Fred's type or viceversa. If two men are gay it doesn't neccesarily mean they're sleeping together. |

I think when he said never in a million years he meant Freddie was just too much for him or something. That Freddie Loves video is something else. Very funny and a bit shocking. |

well knowin what Freddies fate was hes probably really relieved he didnt sleep wit Freddie and maybe just becuz Freddie was famous doesnt mean every gay guy would wanna sleep wit him besides Peter was just glad to be his friend! |
karen 05.01.2006 23:25 |
Peter was his friend, yes, but he was also an employee. Peter is a gentleman, and he knew exactly where to draw the line. He also said that he is one of the few people that didn't sleep with Freddie! I think he also respected Freddie way too much for that! Just because you are gay, it doesn't mean that you are going to sleep with every man in sight are you? |

Anyway the scene I loved the most was Jim Hutton giving a bath to freddie...so funny, LOL: |

I think that although Jim appears to be a Mr Nobody to outsiders looking in. That is possibly one of the main reasons Freddie was attracted to him. Firstly dont forget it is said that Freddie, away from the limelight was a shy, introverted guy. It could be that Jims lack of fame, and simplistic lifestyle would be just the thing Freddie was looking for, in order to go home and switch off, get away, from the general debauchery which was the rest of his life. Also, as Freddie admitted he lost faith in ever finding a long term relationship, because each time he thought he had found it, the significant other betrayed his trust. Now, with Jim, Freddie may, I suppose, have thought he would have a certain level of control, afterall Jim didnt earn much, and although Freddie obviously didnt want to insult him, he still got Jim used to the idea of being his gardener. By which time Freddie knew where Jim was all the time, and lets be right Freddie DID 2 time Jim, which is what makes me think that Freddie wanted to call the tune. I might be wrong, but I can see why Freddie may have thought that this relationship might have worked, with Jim being just Mr average. One thing I have always disputed though, is I cannot believe Jim Hutton did not know who Freddie was when he first met them, and hadnt heard of Queen. That I think is rubbish. |

Well, I agree with both of you, it seems strange at first that he chose Jim, then it sounds just perfect for Freddie. Anyway I like Jim better than any of his New York daugthers or the other men that talked on the "freddie's loves" video. And they all seemed also very very average men, maybe very basic, I don't think many of them were interested in freddie's singing or music or any other life issue. I can only thik of one thing in common among them: being gay and going out to (How did he say?), oh, the three Fs: Find them, fuck them, forget them. Too sad IMHO. |
freesia 06.01.2006 11:03 |
Yes, I know what you mean, however, I do think (maybe wrongly but who knows) that Freddie did care, very much, but wouldnt let that side show if he could help it, as he thought maybe it would show as a weakness. Therefore he possibly adopted the 3 f's theory for damage limitation in his own way. It must have been incredibly hard for him, to firstly acknowledge his gay tendencies in an era were it was still pretty much taboo, and, infact down right dangerous. Secondly overcome his, shall we say, different upbringing and schooling. Also, as the above points would be considered as negatives, when trying to settle in a new country, he must have had a huge amount of drive within his personality to eventually succeed in bringing to the fore his massive talent as a musician. All of which he did, and did with honours, but I still think the flip side of Freddies personality took a lot of hard knocks. Hence the two sided personality, for what its worth thats the impression I get from the things IVe read etc. |

freesia I agree with what you say. Someone as Freddie, who needed quiet and understanding as much as his fame and parties, could really feel the need of a simple man by his side, who he could easily keep under control (though in a loving way). I can understand this, but what strikes me about Jim is that he seems unable to see beyond Freddie's material life: he writes pages and pages about them going shopping, and then again pages and pages about his pesents to him and other friends. He also points out not once but many times that Freddie would call Garden Lodge "OUR" home, and not "MY" home, and other properties too. To me he seems like a very childish character. I would have thought that in order to become the partnbuy what he bu I dislike about Jim is the waykkecontrolwouldn't would be eas likwould reallywas aA rock star as famous andFreddie mayneeded so |

I would have thought that in order to become the life-long partner of someone so special as Freddie, one would need to be special as well. Most of all, it would have to be someone who would look beyond his material wealth and love him also for what he was - which is very difficult to find for famous and rich people. So it's not Jim's being basic that puzzles me, it's rather his lack of any trait that makes him special, and above all, his lack of depth in character. Needless to say this is only my opinion, and it is only based on my impressions on the book. It's just food for thought. I have no right to judge Jim really, because I've never met him. Fairy |

Well we can just express our opinions about this, but I'm reading Jim's book and honestly I wonder why Freddie chose him as his life partner for so many years. He doesn't seem to have any particular talents, or interests, he only talks about money and gifts all the time...He's been near Freddie for so long, there's so much he could tell us, not just what he liked to buy for himself and for his friends. Jim's book to me just sounds like a child's diary, full of lists of things he did and things he got as presents. No deep feeling transpire, there is no deep thought. Even when he grieves about Freddie's imminent death, what seems to worry him the most is how he will get by alone. Well, I must be wrong because there must be a good reason why Freddie chose him...But this is my impression from the book and I'm curious to know if anyone else feels the same about this. FairyWell, darlings, I haven't yet read the book, but I do believe that Freddie loved Jim very much. And it warms my heart to know that for the last few years of his life,Freddie was in love and felt loved/nurtured;) |
