Freddie's #1 Fan Forever 04.01.2006 17:40 |
To Queen fans, From what I have read, it seems to me that Freddie's parents were not good parents at all. In the first place, it appears that he was left at a boarding school in India where his parents very rarely visited him. It was almost like he was an orphan. I guess that his parents also didn't really care that he was being abused by some of the male school teachers at the time. When Freddie became successful his parents were still assholes. He wanted to buy them a nice house, but they refused. When Freddie's lover, Jim Hutton came to their house, he noted that they did not have any pictures of Freddie on the wall or anything. Freddie was also not able to tell them that Jim was his lover. I guess that they were pretty homophobic. Then in an interview one time, the interviewer suggests to Freddie that his parents must be at least proud of him. But Freddie did not think that they really were happy for him. It seems so sad to think that his parents could not even be proud of him, maybe because they knew that he was gay or bisexual. |

That post seems pretty rediculous. To say that his parents didn't approve of his lifestyle does not mean that they didn't love him as their son. Many parents would rather their child not be gay, or a rock star either for that matter. But they don't disown them. The fact that his mother was at the Sheffield show indicates that she had some degree of pride in his career. |

Didn't Brian say Freddie's mum was "a sweet old lady that Freddie was terrified of?" |

Wheres the proof of this?? Did Freddie tell you himself?? And the fact that they didnt have many pictures of Fred around or the fact that they sent him to boarding school doesnt count. Many people send their children to boarding schools. And how many people at that time actually approved of a gay lifestyle?? or for this time for that matter... And why would she go to award shows (RnR HOF) and the Sheffield show if she didnt love him?? |

and yet, after all the horrible things they did to Freddie, his mum still turned up to see the Q+PR concert! if she really thought so little of him, you would think she wouldn't have come. I mean, Brian dedicated 'love of my life' to her, she might have changed...dramatically |

If Freddie heard that he wouldnt be too pleased with you!... some of parents are a little strict if they send their child to boarding school... but if he was alive to see that then you would be the first member of Queenzone to be officially knocked out by freddie mercury! |

I don't know if you should really put up posts like this, I mean, what you know of Freddie isn't a lot, thought it may seem so...You know he was in Queen yes, and some of his personal life thanks to the books by Freestone and Hutton, but still, you don't know him enough to bash his parents... |
bas asselbergs 05.01.2006 17:44 |
No they weren't. They loved him and wanted nothing but the best for him and his sister Kashmira. I met his sister and mother at several occasions, and they really, really love him deeply. And yes, they were proud of him too, and if they weren't then, they sure as hell are now. Remember that he did come from a different culture, upbringing and time. It is pretty obvious that you never looked them in the eyes, and just stick to what others wrote in their books (being full of frustrations sometimes). Freddie was always very protective about his private life, and if you read the books really good, you will find that there was no need for Freddie to be framed on a picture in his parents house. He was in their hearts all the time. If you read the interviews with Sir Elton John too, you'll see that Freddie was loved and respected. And his parents never did put him away, and neither was he abused by teachers, he was merely confronted with boys on this boysschool first, and that never happened against his own will. One is like one is. So was he like he was. And it really never mattered to his family. Maybe they would have loved to see him become a father, but he was never treated bad by his family because he never had any children. He godfathered one of Mary's children, and he was ALWAYS at John's home, taking care of, and watching over his kids, and he was very fond of them indeed! You writing a piece like you did, on a site wich is meant to be for REAL fans, makes you most definately NOT a fan at all. One should leave you behind, like one leaves excreta behind !!! Basje |

she has a legitimate question and thought, it's not the end of the world folks. everyone attacks someone for: bringing up an opionion that differs from the majority 2. or repeating something already talked about..which at this point everything has been discussed on here. You are the same folks that take stabs at others for not accepting gays, etc..etc...yet you have the narrow mind and cannot accept it when someone has an opinion that's not "correct" in your view. freddie was talented, but not the hero everyone would like for him to have been. he had a great voice, wrote great songs, great band and lost his life over some mans/men butthole, pretty crazy when that is what it comes down to..what a waste. Too bad he didnt stick to women, maybe married Mary and we might be hearing more great music from Queen to this day. |

Well if they were so awful to Freddie it didn't do anything, he turned out to be an amazing man with an amazing talent and incredible life. Pobody's nerfect! |

As a matter of fact, there were no questions at all. Simple, uneducated statements, such as Freddie's parents were assholes. |

Yes, according to Jimmy may, he was a kind man who was good around children, never cursing etc, always believed in proper behavior in front of children. If thats not a sign of being raised right then, well, what is?? |
Fairy 07.01.2006 06:17 |
Freddie visited his parents every week, at least in his final years, and he always let them know where he went, etc. If he didn't get along with them he sure would have cut off communication. In an interview he did say that his parents didn't like his lifestyle and that he actually thought that was OK because there has to be differences between generations. |
Tyfoon 07.01.2006 11:07 |
have any of you saw 'the freddie mercury untold story'? because they talk to his mother then and she had pictures of him all over. |
Freddie's #1 Fan Forever 07.01.2006 16:56 |
Freddie was a very good son. He would always visit his parents and was there every year when his mother had her birthday. Unfortunately, they were not the best parents. When Freddie's father was read sections of the "Mercury and Me" book, he apparently became "physically ill". What is so offensive about that book that it would make a father physically ill? There is nothing that bad in that book, other than the fact that it reveals that Freddie had gay lovers. Freddie's father was so unaccepting about the fact that his son was gay. But what did he expect? I mean, Freddie was left alone at a boarding school where he was being sexually abused by male teachers for years. In some cases, it was noted that his parents did not visit him for up to a year. After all that, his father should just be thankful that his son did not become a rapist or something. |

Sounds like she really loved her son to me. He may have gone to boarding school etc, but he turned out to be a very intelligent man and quite independent, which is the whole purpose of sending children away to school in the first place in my opinion...to develop independence. |

Bitch4Freddie wrote: What is so offensive about that book that it would make a father physically ill?Maybe the part about Jim being Freddie's boyfriend (the entire book??).....just a shot in the dark, but I think its a pretty good guess. Not trying to be a sarcastic asshole, but you seem unable to realize that one's morals are largely determined by the generation from which they come. And that doesn't make them bad people, just different than you and me. |
DreaminQueen 08.01.2006 00:22 |
Exactly, its the generational thing. But that doesnt mean they didnt love him. You cant tell me that your parents agreed with everything youve ever done either?? That doesnt mean they dont love you. And sometimes i wish i could be more independent like that... but im trapped... |
Dharankanawala 09.01.2006 03:20 |
Freddie's parents love him dearly and always will. He's their baby boy;) |
