Brian had that up on his website when it happened when the Queen+Paul Rodgers tour was in Europe. Then he wrote his explanation as to what happened on his website about how the interviewer wasted Brian's time going off about some children's act covering BoRahp I forget all the details, and Brian was like...to the reporter...well Brian had a certain amount of time to do an interview/press right before the gig, and wanted to of course discuss the tour and Queen+Paul Rodgers' collaboartion, how and why the tour came about, etc. and all the reporter wanted to do was waste Brian's time shortly before the gig itself, bugging Brian to watch some video of some kids in a school band..or something to that affect. |

From Brians site from brians mouth - "No, I wasn't grumpy. I was disappointed in the interviewer. We went straight into interviews from a long journey. The guy wasted his opportunity, and wasted my time. His brief was to talk about what was happening in the moment - a massive Queen tour, with Paul Rodgers, sold out, with wonderful reactions. Instead the interviewer started asking me why we didn't do the whole of "Bohemian Rhapsody" live. "Do you mean perform the operatic section?", I asked. "Well, yes", he said. "Because there are six of us, and 150 voices on the record - it would be ridiculous.. ", I said. "But with modern technology...?" he went on .... "No", I said, "not with modern technology. If you want to see Bohemian Rhapsody done completely live, go see our musical We Will Rock You". The interviewer seemed not to have heard of this. I started tell him we used Bo Rap as an opportunity for a special presentation involving Freddie. He seemed not to hear me. He then told me he wanted to show me a video of some students singing "Bohemian Rhapsody" live. I kinda squirmed .... why were we using up valuable time doing this, when we were running late anyway for the crucial sound-check which would enable us to play at our best that evening? I have seen plenty students singing Bo Rap, thanks. Maybe later ...? Well, he insisted, so I gave way. Then the video he wanted to show me didn't work. He said, "Give me a minute". I said, "This is crap - I would rather be spending the time preparing for the show, which is the real reason we are here." Or something like that. At this point I actually got up to leave, but thought...."No. I am not a prima donna, I should give the guy another chance" ... so I sat down again and said, "OK, let's start again. we have probably 3 minutes left - ask me something decent!" The interview consulted his notes, and said, "Bohemian Rhapsody was released in 1976 in Holland. When was it released in England?" Those of you who know their Queen history know this is any case wrong. But really who cares? And if they did, why couldn't the interviewer find this out for himself, instead of using up supposed interview time about the tour with this nonsense? Well, at this point, I lost it. I think I said .. "Sorry, this is truly a waste of time". And I left to do soundcheck and clean myself up ready for the show. It was a choice from that point on, time being short .... bad hair or bad fingers ! I opted for bad hair of course - hair washing just before playing gives soft fingers - a potential disaster. I was happy in the end.... it turned out to be the best show so far ..... one of those nights which truly justifies to me my lack of home life ...my physical battle to regain match-fitness... the whole thing ...even the interviews!! ha ha! It was a joy." |

He looked exhausted, I can totally see why he didn't want his time wasted. He was focused on the show. |

I thought he handled it very well. He kind of kept calm, and that amazes me because there are plenty of people I can think of who would have completely blown up! Fair play to him. Sorry, had to laugh at that: "Bohemian Rhapsody was realeased in 1976 in Holland. When was it released in England?" I mean come on! |

I've seen that before and I don't blame him. He said he was tired and he looked it. And that stupid man's voice would get on my nerves. |
Chamo25 29.12.2005 15:06 |
That interviewer is so stupid and unprofessional. I wonder if he really is a journalist or a comedian. |
deleted user 29.12.2005 15:09 |
Hope that's a lesson learned for the future - never waste Brian May's time. The man is a really decent and kind person, as proved in that clip the way he didn't lose his head and even shook your man's hand, but by god he'll put you in your place if he has to. |
Rick 29.12.2005 15:21 |
It was not wasting Brian's time, they should have asked proper questions. About the new tour, about the gig. But not about a song which is 30 years old, which we don't know the meaning of, because the writer of the song has taken the meaning of the song and himself to heaven. |

The man said in dutch: Unfortunately, sometimes it goes not that good at interviews, if you wanne see more of brian may, you van visit the gelredome concert in the summer. |

This is pretty cool video actually. They should show this to the students at Gene Simmons Rock and Roll school... they could discuss proper ways of leaving a horrible interveiw. With Brian handling it the way he did, it makes the dutch interview guy look like the idiot (which he was) instead of brian. Way to go Bri! |
The prophet's song 29.12.2005 17:15 |
Blimey, I think Brian did quite well! I mean, the way the interviewer was going on you would have thought that Bohemian Rhapsody was the only song Queen ever did??!! If I were Brian, I would have been tempted to do a Freddie and hit him around the head with a mirror! I take media studies at school so I know, if you wanna do an interview, you can't waste the other person's time! |

Brian was really annoyed but still he acted politely: he didn't forget to shake hands with the reporter when he decided to leave! What a gentleman! :) |
Yood-Queen 29.12.2005 19:05 |
I think brian was overreacting and i think brian had enough from all of this(at least he looked like one who had enough....)he is satisfied with all the queen case,i think this is the time to retreat especially that the present days are not like they use to be...shining and happy all different now , freddie is missing, with all the respect and honor that i give to brian and roger, they are the kings and always will be a symbol and something special to me. |
Crazy LittleThing 29.12.2005 22:14 |
I read about this when it happened, and after finally seeing it, I think he acted in a much more gracious manner than I would have. Not only does the interviewer come off as a giant jackass, the people who broadcast this come off looking even worse. |

To my surprise Freddie seemed very patient on certain interviews. On the GVH2 when they were showing interviews for The Works this lday asked him questions like "Is I Want To Break Free about "they gay people"? Freddie just explained calmly that he didn't even write the song. I wouldn't have been as ploite as him in that situation! ;) |
Lisser 30.12.2005 11:46 |
It looked like to me that Brian didn't want to do the interview in the first place. He said he really needed some sleep. I can't imagine how much patience he has. I certainly don't. I would have just rolled my eyes, got up, and left. |

Lisser: Haha, yes, I would have done the same. But I guess it's something you have to get used to handle, I mean, annyoing journalists and stuff like that, if you are very famous. I that would have been me, I would either scream at that asshole guy what a fucking wanker he is, and that he was wasting my time, or I would as you said, just roll my eyes and leave. :) Not very polite, but I have never been. |
