I know Freddie did not like having his music analyzed 'if you see it there, darling, then it's there'. BUT... I often see the words 'self-deprecating' in connection to 'Mr. Bad Guy'.
Since he knew he was a great singer/performer, this self-deprecating issue - if true - would seem to apply to his personal self.
Opinions on what Freddie might have meant in this song? Was he displaying himself as he believed others saw him or as he saw himself? Sorry, but there is no 'bad' in Freddie for me... at least none that I won't willingly overlook. :-)
"I'm Mr. Bad Guy
They're all afraid of me
I can ruin people's lives
Mr. Bad Guy they're all afraid of me
It's the only way to be
That's my destiny
Mr. Bad Guy, Mr. Bad Guy, Bad Guy
It's only way for me
It's my destiny"
Freddie was known as a tempestuous tyrant to most who worked for or around him, and he was probably aware of what people thought of him, thus the song. Whether he gave a shit about the whiners, or just used their snivelling as the basis for this song is unknown. He did, however, continue to be a prick until AIDS took it out of him to the point where he couldn't claw or bite any more.
So... his fear of being hurt made him sabotage his relationships. He knew he was doing it - and was hurting others in the process - but couldn't stop himself... yes?
"Mr. Bad Guy. I can ruin people's lives... It's my destiny."
That's so very sad.
Bingo. Freddie was a strange cat, that's for sure. He found what he needed with Jim Hutton, so at least his final 6 years were happy and fulfilled.

Mary Austin said before, "He died with a smile on his face." It's comforting to know he was happy and now all we can do is remember a colourful life. I'll certainly be raising my glass to him on New Year's Eve.
Mr Bad Guy is a great song!
do you think that mr right guy would sell better?I guess that freddie once said sth like that about 'my love is dangerous',you wouldn't listen to(you wouldn't want to) a song: 'my love is save'

True, he did say something like that, and so I know what you mean. But the only reason I asked this was because this song is so connected to him. Critics say it AND he mentions his own name in it. I simply wondered why he might think of himself as bad. I understand now, and now that I do, I wonder why I didn't get it in the first place. Duffus me. :-\
