I think it's really weird how Queen's later stuff didn't get so high in the charts. I mean 'The Show Must Go On', is amazing and is the most best vocal performance you could get from anyone, let alone them being ill. But still it only got to number 16. And 'The Miracle' only got to number 11 and 'Slightly Mad' number 22. They should have got much higher. 'Innuendo' desevedly got to number 1 because it's like another 'Bohemian Rhapsody' but the others are way too low for those amazing songs. And crap now like PussyCat dolls get to number one with some slushy rubbish or some stupid hip-hop thing. It makes me feel ashamed to be English when the charts are so crap as they are. |

The general public isn't going to buy a new single every few months when they can have all the singles (and a half dozen other songs) for the same price! Look at the UK chart positions of singles from any Queen album, and you will see them usually charting lower and lower with every subsequent single release from the same album. The phenomenom became a bit more apparent over the years, as the amount of single releases per album increased. |

A lot of people did not (and still do not) appreciate Queen's music becuase of Freddie Mercury's homosexuality. They think Queen is just an all gay band and think their music is pointless. They shun away from this type of thing. Assholes. |

The previous week was Iron Maiden - EMI had it all figured out... |

I think the public got sick of it after a while as every record company jumped on this type of money-making band wagon. This probably affected Queen's subsequent single sales as well, I think. |

Yes, its sad to know that Queen will probably no longer reach number one in the charts. And i agree this XFactor crap needs to stop, sooo many artists out there have the look, but not necessarily the talent. And as an American, i cannot stand the new stuff that comes out. Every station you put on, you are bombarded with asses and chests and barely dressed humans. Its not about the Music anymore. Its about how sexy you are, talent or not. And America has never really kept too many bands at number one, its always been a very "flavor of the moment" country as far as music goes. Which is disappointing because i know a fair amount of people who love whats considered outdated music. And its disappointing to me that bands like Queen dont get enough current respect from this generation. And Queen should be up there more, most definatly! |

I don't agree that Queen wouldn't reach number one nowadays. I think that if Freddie was still alive Queen would be one of those few acts, like U2 or Madonna, whose every new release is long awaited. Queen transformed well into the 80's, and I think they had big chances to do so in the 90's and now. I agree that a lot of their singles charted much too low. There was a few really big disappointments: The Miracle, I'm Going Slightly Mad, The Show Must Go On (unbelievably low; in Poland they started playing it on the radio in the summer and it climbed to no.3, and it was before Freddie's death; after his death most songs went to no.1) and finally You Don't Fool Me (only no.17?!). No justice in this world! |

Charts are crap everywhere, not only in England. I think it's true that Queen maybe deserved better positions but as you already said, lots of factors are counting to help a single make or fail. I agree also that Freddie being gay wasn't a good factor for homophobic people to buy a single or even an album, and unfortunately I think there would be many people who wouldn't listen to a single track because of that fact.It is really sad.:( |

No justice in this world!Yes i COMPLETELY agree, were the complete original QUEEN line up still going, they would be higher on the charts. But speaking retrospectively, they should have as well. And its sad taht there has to be a death in the band to spike sales. Its almost like people are just jumping on a bandwagon at the poorest time, however, not all, some fans do so to show support. But with the rumors of a Q+PR album, maybe we'll see. Granted you must take into account that it still isnt the complete original Queen lineup, but id buy it. |
