I just watched the one vision doc on GVH 2 yesterday and I wanted to share some opinions and know yours. :)
First of all, I liked it a lot, it showed a good creative atmosphere while the recording was being done.
Second, I had the impression that Freddie was a perfectionist, saying to Roger what he thought he had to do and checking and repeating all the time his vocal parts himself, and he also gave advice to Brian. What do you think?
It was also funny to see Roger saying that he wrote the lyrics of the song, but in the end it didn't matter because freddie changed it all over??
Fun also when they are trying to fit the words in the song and Roger just skips some words and they all laugh;and when Roger and Freddie start jumping like frogs on their seats, LOL.
I love also the John Deacon verse made up by Freddie:).
Roger says he doesn't know what the song is about, he mentions that he doesn't believe it's about Bob Geldof, though somebody says that. What is the song about, then?I had the idea it was inspired by Live Aid.
I loved also seeing Brian doing his riffs again and again, he looked also very involved in making the song the best possible.
What really shocked me is that John Deacon said he was on vacation when the band started working on the song, and he says that he had to admit that even if the song was a Queen song, it had been Freddie, Brian and Roger who were really involved in the process of creation, not him. I had also the impression that John stayed quite apart from the rest of the band, like if the other three were really one and he was like a guest musician. Of course it's just a one track recording, maybe on other ocassions he was more involved.What do you think?

Ah, I forgot to say I loved the video, it really made me feel the guys close, human, and easygoing. :))
The thing about John is not that dramatic. On a later occasion (The Miracle-Interview '89) Rog for example was aked about a particular song - forgot which one - and how it came about, started to answer seriously and then bursts into laughter: "Actually that one, I think... well I wasn't too involved, but... actually I was on a skiing holiday at the time... !"
So I think it's pretty normal that during a lengthy studio-session several bandmembers are absent from time to time. Freddie used this time when Rog was on another holiday to change AKOM from a dark, cinemascope-type of song into the poptune we all know.
Personally I think John was more involved than most of us think in the recording and producing process, it's just his quiet nature that makes him appear somewhat uninterested. But he was a vital part of Queen's sound.
The documentary itself is hilarious, I agree - and I wish there'd be more of that. And yes, the (other) guy with the moustache is Jim Hutton.
Thank you, yes, you must be right, maybe it was his quiet nature that made him appear a little uninterested. I'm glad the "no involvment " thing happened also with the other members.
Poor Rog, Freddie change the AKOM, and they also made changes he didn't seem to like much to his song Breakthru...I just love the way the songs sound in the end. I would love to see the early stages anyway. :) Is ther any footage?
the one vision documentary released on the magic years video box set is much better. it actually shows a little tension that has noticebly been wiped from the dvd - which is a shame. queen have gone from being a band that rowed about everything to being the bestest friends ever

Anyway, I love seeing them so happy and getting along so well.But I would, of course, love to see the arguing, I think that's part of the natural process of creation, specially with them, LOL.
The one vision doc is good but I'd love to see a documentary when Queen were really at their creative peak, say recording ANATO, that would have given such an insight
"But it's clean... it's clean!" Freddie is funny here. And the bit with the words - Roger keeps saying "How about this?" and the other two keep ignoring him.

And near the beginning when the camera goes up to Brian playing the guitar and he gives it a priceless look! He looks so moody.
Yes, I always laugh at that. He looks as if he just wants to kill someone. Haha.
And I must ask you this, what is it that Freddie and Roger say in the beginning of the documentary, just before they say something like "...big fat dick!". I can never hear what they say! Could someone please tell me???
BTW, I LOVE the documentary, it's very fun! I just wish that it was longer, or perhaps one more about another song, or album.
the best bit is when rog says "it just sounds like hes marking time" and freddie says "i bet theres an argument bout this". brilliant!!!!

This documentary is great, I really laughed at it and my sister thought it was great too. It was so funny at the end where Freddie sang the 'John Deacon verse' as you call it!
Did anyone else find it funny when John kept looking back at the camera with this big smirk on his face and he was dancing or something. That was mad.
And I loved the bit where there was just silence and Brian who was looking downwards suddenly looked up and laughed! That was funny.

That was really funny, but put that together with the shirt he's wearing and it turns out terribly funny. ;)
Anyway I would have liked him to speak some more during the creative process, he judt doesn't say a word.
At the interview:
Rog: The lyrics wher mine but someone changed it all over.
Interviewer:"who changed the lyrics"?
Rog: "rotter Freddie".LOL.
