I know I'm going to get flamed for this but it has to be said... In the case of two teenage girls who ignore sirens, flashing lights and the fact that the road barriers are down & open a gate to get onto a railway line, my sympathies are mainly with the driver who had to watch them bounce off the front of his train at 70mph, and the level crossing operator who was powerless to prevent them and could only watch as the carnage unfolded before his eyes... sorry. |

I didn't actually use the word "splattered" |
Rockyuk 04.12.2005 18:58 |
I used to word splattered... Its a pretty accurate description... And im the one who knew them both, I dont find using the word splatered offensive. It wasnt as striaghtforward as them just running across ignoring signals, they saw there train on the opposit platform with people getting on, saw the lights go and a siren and thought it ment there train was about to leave, but it turned out it was signals from the train that hit them. When your in a rush, and think your going to miss your train it can be an easily mistake to make, if your not concentrating. They didnt deserve to pay with their lives. |

It's sad that the guy felt so hopeless that he thought that was the only way out... but I'm sorry I don't see how anyone can say there two particular parodies aren't funny: link link |

Perhaps I'm too old to find humor in one's suicide. I would assume that after it occurs to one of your family members, you would feel the same. |

I have no sympathy or respect for those who commit suicide so conspicuously. Suicide is the ultimate form of selfishness. Therefore, I can easily place it in the "humor-sensitive" category. |

However, the only way a suicide does not become the ultimate form of selfishness is if a) he truly does not know anyone else, or b) he sacrifices himself for someone else. This was not the case, as it seems he did so over a girl. Refer to my first post; it seems that I was correct. |

That's why my sympathy goes for the conductor, as he will have traumas of hitting those people. that the teenagers got killed is their own fault, how harsh this might sound. My whole school has been effected by their deaths, today wa sthe quitest I can ever remember the school. One was a good friend of my brother, and he identifed a picture of them to a reporter. |

EVERYTHING. Anyway, one look at link shows that it's been funny and open for mocking for quite some time now. It's like, sure, it sucks to have been the friends and family of Hitler, but it's not like Hitler jokes aren't fair game. |
Maz 05.12.2005 20:30 |
Poor example. Hitler cannot be compared to a teenage suicide; it's apples and oranges. Besides, just because we can doesn't mean we should. Yes, everything can be mocked and, yes, we choose to laugh. But that doesn't mean we should. I can make fun of crippled kids, laugh at diabetics, and curse old ladies, but all that does is make me a jerk. And finally, of course friends and family are part of the discussion. You may choose to ignore them, but the fact is they are linked to suicide. Ask any parent. |

Seems to me that there aren't as many "emo" kids around as I thought initially. I've never talked about this up until now to anyone outside of my family, but her attitude's changed a LOT ever since she started listening to Evanescence (csp?). She gets very moody, argumentive, and seems to believe that she's "doing nothing but ruining your (by that, I mean our family's) lives" when in truth, she's not. Although I do have to say that she takes after some of the "qualities" that I had as a younger teenager when I was her (current) age, and I don't mean the nice ones necessarily. So it's hard to tell what's coming from normal "teen angst", and what's coming from this "emo" shit that we have to put up with, in terms of her outlook and attitude. I personally think "emo" music should be banned. It offers nothing good, especially in terms of feelings and lyrics. ED: PS. Music Man is right about "emo" kids coming from upper-middle-class families. We are definitely not an exception, my family, as we are very much well off. |
Music Man 05.12.2005 21:26 |
Well, nowadays banning "emo" music would be like banning all music. Everything and anything is categorized as emo, and it's really hard to tell what's destructive and what isn't. That aside, that music is not so much destructive as it is so that it gives young, impressionable children the idea that such acts as self-mutilation and depression are "cool." And the "more different, yet conforming to emo styles" you are, the more "cool" you are, as well. It does this in a very subtle way. Music artists complain about such issues as a struggle, and something which they regret. Sort of like a lot of drug-oriented music. They are not saying it's good, but by saying it's not good, they are inadvertently making it "cool." I'm thinking as I go, but this, psychologically, is how I perceive it. Now, don't get me wrong; I think a ban on this music is a silly idea. However, these are the facts, and that's all I'm presenting you. These kids worship their idols just like we all do. Don't tell me you have never tried to be just like your idol, whether it be Freddie, Brian, Roger, John (hehe), or some other famous (or not) person. Thus, being depressed, making decisions you regret, etc. becomes "cool." I don't really know where I'm going right now, but that's just how things work in this magical world known as the human mind. |

First of all, NO kind of music should ever be banned. That's rediculous. Secondly, although I feel sorry for this guy's family, its hard to be sympathetic for him. Someone said something about "conspiciuos suicides" earlier in the thread and I agree with that statement. Suicide is selfish but conspicious suicide is narcissism at its worst. I mean, come on, making a suicide post on Myspace.com?? That's not asking for help, but rather, wanting to make the whole world mourn your death. No tears shed from my eye.... |
