I am shocked, or unaware. How is it, after inventing the Red Special, that there isn't at least one band out there that I am aware of who has not yet tried to emulate the Red Special rock sound?????????
If I had guitar skill, and a band, my creative goal would be to sprout out musically from the groundwork of Queen's style, but more especially, Brian May's sound. Why is he the only one doing it? No wonder I can't find a band that is to me within the realm of Queen. Nobody truly tries to rip them off.
I am not supporting the idea of copying a band, but I am saying that with all the 'Pearl Jam', 'Beatles', and 'Led Zeppelin' wanabees, why is there no obvious Queen followers. 'The Darkness' doesn't count because, while they think they sound like Queen, they actually sound, to me, like a mediocre glam band with a vocalist whose vocals sound like what I would imagine a male animal sounding like during the process of having it's testacles cut off. Not even Geddy Lee of Rush could sound so awful as The Darkness's lead nightmare on vocals.
Somebody, somewhere needs to make it as a band with a guy who is obsessed with copying the Brian May sound.
No new bands do this because they cant! they just dont have the patience for it. Like most young muscians, guitarists etc want to learn everything in the shortest time possible. of course this can never be so they settle with the common rock band style. me on the other hand has been playing queen nice and patiently on guitar for 4 years and cant seem to find a group of other muscians with similar tastes!
annoying

Who would want to hear someone trying to sound like Brian May? Jeff Beck? or Jimmy Page?
The first thing you'd notice is that they can't do it like they did it.
I just be happy seing someone plug in their guitar to their amp and just play. Enough of these amp simulators and effect pedals. Just play!!!
Ahh... but those simulators and such are a big reason why Queen is what it is. Playing is very important, usually the most important thing... but for Brian, I doubt Queen would be nearly as phenomenal if he just plugged in and played. A Les Paul with an AC-30 and a regular(maybe Boss) effects pedal, just wouldn't cut it!
My point is, there should be some other band out there with lead guitarist using a Red Special copy(Guild/RS Guitars/KZ's/Burns/etc.), Fryer Treble Booster, and Vox AC-30, imitating his sound while playing whatever they create themselves.
The BM/RS sound is heroin to my ears.
If anyone actually did imitate Queen openly as an original band instead of a tribute group, they would be castrated, drawn, quartered, hung, and then disemboweled and dismembered (a la William Wallace) by every press agency, Queen fan, and especially by every little keyboard piranha on QZ. Queen fans are the mosty anal-retentive pricks on the planet! Why do you think I enjoy it here?

Well, now I HAVE to argue with you.
1. A Les Paul or Strat plugged into an AC-30 or a Marshall tube amp is a sound that will never be faked. (Line 6's pod & other sims will back me up there.)
2. The Burns is crap. I own one and have already had to replace the cheap wiring in it. That's why it's on the wall as a decoration. The Guild is clearly superior. Burns paid Brian a lot of money and manufactured an inferior product.
3. You did redeem yourself mentioning the Fryer. If you're gonna boost, do it right. I even think some of these boss pedals are pretty worthless too. There's a lot of junk out there.
In Brian's defense, I hear a "maturing" guitar sound in each album. That's one reason I like his work. It's not the same drony sound after 25 years. (Carlos?!?)
From one guitarist to another (obviously you are!) thanks for the good topic!
To clear one thing up... I sucks at guitar. I thought buying all the BM equipment would motivate me by a) having the sound I love. b) costing so much that guilt would motivate me. Unfortuneately the results were a) The sound is so damned loud, I don't feel comfortable playing it in my living environment and b) I underestimated my laziness. That being said, I can play bits and pieces, here and there.
I figure, if I could get a great Brighton Rock delay, it would be so damned cool, I would practice for hours, cross the point of no return(meaning to become good enough to enjoy practicing), and really develop and have fun.
I do agree that the Burns appears to be less than a strong replica, but I have no other models to compare it to. It does the job. If I ever get good, I will get a KZ, RS, or an old Guild.
First off, you don't suck at guitar. Never think that way. You're simply crafting your sound. Which is all the more reason to just plug in and play!!! Those nifty effect can come later, but you'll really appreciate your guitar more that way.
Being a band leader, and in no way big-time, just a job, I usually don't even pay much attention when the guitar player whips out his pedal board. I just figure he's hiding something bad.

I too, am lazy when it comes to practicing the guitar. Maybe saving up for a Red Special copy will motiviate me(which it certainly will!)
