THE DARKNESS singer JUSTIN HAWKINS has levelled a brutal attack at QUEEN star BRIAN MAY - accusing him of ruining the band's legacy. Hawkins, who is a huge fan of the FREDDIE MERCURY-fronted group, takes particular exception to a cover of hit song WE WILL ROCK YOU, in which May teamed up with British boyband 5IVE. He rants, "Queen used to be something worth fighting for, but I think that Brian May has butchered the back catalogue and allowed f****** people like 5ive to ruin the memory. "It's like when somebody you're close to has a roadkill: you don't really want to see them like that, you want to remember them how they were. "I think it's p****** on the grave." i tought that two bands are in good relations interesting stuff |

The Darkness blow ass anyways so it doesnt matter |

I think justin didn't say that. What's your source?....If he did say it, I agree with him. Brian is killing the Queen name. |

What a jealous guy is this Justin Hawkins!... If it's true... |
deleted user 25.11.2005 08:47 |
If it is true it's all probably just publicity for the new album. But I can't see why he would want to say that. They obviously aim to sound and look like Queen so why pick a fight with one of the members? Crazy. |
motbq 25.11.2005 12:32 |
Serry, why would justin be jealous for stating an opinion?...I don't get it. I happen to think those comments are true, do you think 5ive and spears were good moves by brian and roger?...Or bringing back half of queen the way he did?...He has nothing to be jealous about, his debut album went to #1, how long did it take queen to put out a #1 album? |
Fenderek 25.11.2005 12:33 |
Isn't this a bit fucking old? Like a year if not more???? |
PieterMC 25.11.2005 12:37 |
Yes this is old news, and false old news at that. |

Or are you trying to compare 70s and our time? He's a jealous guy because Queen haven't worked with him! And if you want to know my opinion about 5ive, Spears, +PR and other things - everyone already know it - for me Queen's life is over in 1997 with John's retirement. And to be honest - I don't care what someone thinks about Queen :) |
ANAGRAMER 25.11.2005 14:36 |
Mr Hawkins is just drumming up publicity for his new record Take no notice - things like this don't usually get into the public domain unless someone has something to gain from it |
DreaminQueen 25.11.2005 15:23 |
OK, all that crap about a #1 album and whatnot, c'mon, will people even remember the darkness in about 10 yrs?? highly doubtful. I mean queen was a progressive type of band, as well as others at that time, and it wasnt easy to get a number 1 album right out of the gate, however, how many hits has the darkness had? compared to queen? That is the bigger question... |
motbq 25.11.2005 15:36 |
Will they remember the darkness in ten years?...Who knows, remember what they said about queen when they first started?...How many hits does the darkness have compared to queen?...that's not a fair argument, The darknes has just started their career. In the early day's of queen everyone took them as jokes, but they proved the critics wrong by releasing hit after hit. If the darkness can keep releasing good singles they will prove the critics (on queenzone) wrong. |

If the darkness can keep releasing good singles they will prove the critics (on queenzone) wrong.Ok ill give you that this is true, but i duno, today's music just doesnt compare to that back in the late 60's and 70's and 80's... I would give anything to back in time, music of this generation seems a bit a dime by the dozen, at least here in the US. Nothing really sticks out to me anymore, thats why im totally converted to classic rock music. But perhaps Justin Hawkins shouldnt be so critical of <3 Brian May <3, because who knows, perhaps he may be in the same situation some day, and its fine to have an opinion, but i dont think he should have been as harsh in his words about it. |
motbq 25.11.2005 17:21 |
I don't think hawkins attacked brian, I just don't see it. He praises Queen in every interview i'v seen, even recently justin was talking about how amazing queen were and what an influence they are for the new album. The darkness are obviously no queen, not many bands in history are, but IMO their better than "nirvana" and many of todays rock bands. |
DreaminQueen 25.11.2005 20:48 |
Well i have not read any previous articles as i live in the US and they rarely cover this kind of stuff here, the culture here has really gone to hip-hop and emo music, althought there are some like me, very rare and difficult to find or they are in the heavy metal music. But dont u atleast think it was a tad overboard when he said its piss on a grave??? But perhaps it seemed like such blasphemy to him that thats what came out. But i see your point. And im not going to criticize nirvana, im not a fan personally, however, that is the grunge craze that many people are into, me the heaviest music i like is probably some early sabbath stuff and led zeppelin, not that zeppelin is considered that heavy these days compared to some bands out there, but i love it. And u most def. cant beat QUEEN, NEVER! |
motbq 27.11.2005 00:58 |
If he said "piss on a grave" yes that's going a bit overboard, but I'm not convinced he would say such a thing about a friend. you know the way the media likes to twist words around. I also think queen are underpraised, How many bands could rock you as hard as they can (tie your mother down) then the next belt out a tear jerker (love of my life) not even led zep were able to write such a wide range of music. |
DreaminQueen 27.11.2005 17:41 |
Totally agree. Thats why I LOVE QUEEN TILL I DIE! Cuz u can relate to their music no matter what mood you're in, and they have something for everyone. And they did it in the most kickass way that cant be beat. And yes i know zeppelin couldnt do that, but they're still good. But IMO, Queen is forever on top... And on this countdown on VH1's Greatest Hard Rock Artists of all time... Queen Was only 13.... I was sooo pissed, Metallica beat them out... WTF is that??? I agree Queen doesnt get the respect it deserves, especially here in the states! Bring them Here!! Its almost impossible to find their albums in stores, they have like millions of copies of greatest hits stuff, but its almost impossible to find albums, ive had to order a few via the internet. |
motbq 28.11.2005 00:14 |
I personally think 13 best in hard rock was a better listing than i would have thought. Remember, queen's biggest songs weren't hard rock/metal, they were the more melodic side to queen, songs like "killer queen" "somebody to love" and "champions" they really only have a few hard rocker's that are popular in the states "tie your mother down" "stone cold crazy" and a few other's, but still, your right in the sense that queen were easily the better all around band than metallica, i'm not a big fan of their's. |

It was a bit too heavy for my liking, but i liked it some nonetheless... Yea but they had a pretty wide range of ppl on the list, like the Rolling Stones and Janis Joplin, they're both awesome as well, yet not exactly "hard rock", rock yes, but hard rock... not so sure... so it wasnt just the hardrock bands that were on it, it was several ground breaking ones cuz it was the GREATEST HARD ROCK ARTISTS OF ALL TIME... and i was a lil mad because the Beatles didnt make it, ok i know they werent hard rockers, but still they were wave makers... and i cant remember some of the other bands on there, but some of them just didnt even make sense... |

it doesnt matter what he thinks- thats it no one cares what he thinks. I love Fred just as much as the next person but Brian can do what he wants the rest of the band doesnt care and those 4 people are the only opinions that matter. Not his so someone tell him to shut the fuck up already im REALLY starting to HATE i mean LOATH the Darkness. Actually no. too late im thinking about it now its not his place to say anything about Brian i hate him |
Sherwood Forest 28.11.2005 18:01 |
hey did anyone send this sotry to Brian? he likes to hear about Queen news like this. Im Justin Hawkins see himself make an enemy with one of the king pins of one of his "favorite" bands |
kdj2hot 28.11.2005 21:24 |
This is slightly off subject but I'm convinced that most music journalists know nothing about music. I say that cause I keep reading reviews of the Darkness album and almost all of them talk about how Justin Hawkin sounds like Freddie. I read one that says his falsetto is very mercurial or some B.S. like that in People magazine. From what I hear this dude sings almost exclusively in falsetto, when did Freddie ever do that, And unless my hearing is off the dude doesn't sound anything like Freddie. |
DreaminQueen 28.11.2005 21:54 |
I wonder if Brian actually comes on this site and reads the goings on... I dont think so but still... I dont get it tho, if hes a Queen fan, and is supposedly friends w/ them, why would he say crap like hes ruining the legacy?? And i agree, Roger is the one w/the falsetto voice... Fred could sing high occasionally, but not falsetto... The only song ive heard is I believe in a Thing Called Love- not very queenesque or mercurial... perhaps they're queen influenced, but if ure as big a fan if u can say something like that... so this is 1 of several possiblities 1) Drummin up press for the album 2) Jealousy for not working w/ Brian 3) The media screwed up and distorted his words 4) Its a sick joke that people (myself included) are taking rather harshly I dont know... but either way... its a tough pill to swallow for us Queeniacs... |
