Just curious, I was doing some research on the Beach Boys, Pet Sounds, Good Vibrations and SMiLE and while listening to some samples from Pet Sounds it occured to me that the vocal harmony arrangements sounded remarkably similar to a lot of Queen's work with their over-dubbed vocal harmonies! Does anyone know if Queen ever sited the Beach Boys as an influence? I also found it interesting that Brian May and Roger Taylor formed a band called SMILE a year after Brian Wilson abandoned his work on the un-finished and yet greatly anticipated and highly bootlegged SMiLE project. Not a Queen expert, though I'm a fan since I was a kid, so I submit myself to your expertise - lol
Well Freddie was a huge gospel fan, so you'll find plenty of influence in his songs.
Also Led Zeppelin were a big influence - listen to the first album, you'll hear it.
As for Roger, he has mentioned The Beatles many times - which, btw, is also one of the only bands where the drummer also sings. No don't mention the Eagles, please... ;-)
And lastly, Baroch music was quite one of Freddie's passions. Boh Rhap does have quite a lot of that influence.
I read that Freddies early work. Bohemian Rhapsody, Black Queen, My Fairy King etc he was trying to write a cross between The Beach Boys and Led Zeppelin. Also Freddie in particular but Brian and Roger too were very influenced by Jimi Hendrix.
