Soul Brother: "Because he's the saviour of the universe" Not that anything is uncovered by this, but, because we know Flash was recorded: October to November 1980, this means that to include the above reference, "Soul Brother" was recorded post 1980. Queen: Flash Gordon Original Soundtrack UK CD - EMI CDP 7 46214 2 Recorded: Townhouse, The Music Centre, Advision, Utopia and Anvil Studios, October to November 1980. |

The best thing to do is to wait for the end of these "UC" threads and add them up! I guess there are around six or so, but, I don't have an accurate figure yet. Sorry. If you find out before that, you can post back your answer! |

As always, John, you delivered an excellent work. Thanks. I would like to add some little information: Flash (a/k/a Flash's Theme) is also remixed in (real) 5.1 in the GVH DVD. From the FLASH GORDON film: (Disclaimer: Running times from the film versions are taken from a PAL DVD; NTSC sources could mark slightly longer times. Also please bear in mind that the film is released in various sound formats - mono, stereo, 5.1). Flash's Theme (film version) 3:23 In The Space Capsule (The Love Theme) (film version) 2:14 (the album version might be badly tracked) Ming's Theme (In The Court Of Ming The Merciless) (film version) 5:07 The Ring/Dale's Seduction (film version) 1:15 Football Fight (film version) 1:27 In The Death Cell (Love Theme Reprise) (film version) 3:30 Execution Of Flash+The Court Of Ming+Bell And Coffin (film version) 1:09 The Kiss (Aura Resurrects Flash) (film version) 0:48 Arboria (Planet Of The Tree Men) (film version) 3:53 Escape From The Swamp (film version) 0:25 Escape From The Swamp - reprise (film version) 0:57 Flash To The Rescue (film version) 3:07 Vultan's Theme (Attack Of The Hawk Men) (film version) 1:10 Battle Theme (film version) 2:10 The Wedding March (film version) 0:37 The Wedding March - reprise (film version) 0:37 Marriage Of Dale And Ming (And Flash Approaching) (film version) 4:11 Crash Dive On Mingo City (film version) 2:33 Flash's Theme Reprise (Victory Celebrations) (film version) 1:31 The Hero (film version) 3:35 ...I hate the sound of this film. Also there is a unique mix in the original 'QUEEN' trailer: Flash (trailer version) 1:47 And some DVD releases have excerpts taken from the film soundtrack masters: Flash (intro version) 1:10 Flash (intro edit) 0:28 Flash (menu version) 0:53 Flash (photo gallery version) 1:55 |

About Howard Blake compositions, in case some of you are wondering which ones are directly linked to QUEEN's music: The Hero (orchestral version) 0:40 Arrival*+Mongo Greeting+Palace Entry+The Court Of Ming (orchestral version) 3:57 - 'Arrival' is the orchestral arrangement included in 'In The Space Capsule (The Love Theme)'. The Princess+Dale's Seduction*+Football Fight (orchestral version) 2:12 - 'Dale's Seduction' is the orchestral arrangement featured in the film versions of 'The Ring', just isolated. - 'Football Fight' here has nothing to do with QUEEN's. Bell And Coffin*+Zarkov+Rocket Ship Flight* (orchestral version) 3:18 - 'Bell And Coffin' is the orquestral piece at the end of the album version of 'Execution Of Flash'. - 'Rocket Ship Flight' is the orchestral arrangement included in 'The Kiss (Aura Resurrects Flash)'. Firefight+Finale: Death Of Ming And Flash's Victory* (orchestral version) 2:37 - 'Finale: Death Of Ming And Flash's Victory' includes an orchestral version of 'Battle Theme'. |

John S Stuart wrote: Not-off hand Zeni. The best thing to do is to wait for the end of these "UC" threads and add them up! I guess there are around six or so, but, I don't have an accurate figure yet. Sorry. If you find out before that, you can post back your answer!Mr. Seligman lists three Innerviews, but only one is from this time period. That means that the two other shows that he lists, in addition to your three, makes at least five. This assumes that none of the three 1980 shows are repeats. Guess I'll just have to add them all up when you're done with the ''UCs,'' which means yet another QZer hassling you to finish :) |

By the way, I think that the information Leonardo is including in this thread should be credited to Mariano Bryner. |

Thanks to Leonardo and all other contributers. I think this is something Queeznone does well, and it is more than fantastic to keep pushing those boundaries. When I began this series (way back when I was now't but a lad!), I originally intended to include studio releases only. It then expanded to include Bootleg CDs and LPs like "Zoom" or "A Day At The Warehouse". Now (especially since the advent of MP3 downloads) it seems to have taken on a life of it's own - and has expanded even more to include all live bootlegs. It is really great to have all this material in one place, (so yet again, another thank you guys), but just a reminder that this is not stealing from Martin's excellent "Queen Concerts" site, and if any credits are omitted I sincerely apologise. |

I just included the "Flash Gordon" DVD so it should have covered all the bases - but, it is nice that you have divided this up for us. I have versions of both the old (standard) and new Special edition DVDs. As far as Queen are concerned, I can find no differences. I was hoping for an isolated Soundtrack, so that the tunes would be free from effects and dialogue, but sadly, this was not the case. PS: Thanks for bidding against me for the Queen II cassette tape on e-bay. ;-) Matters not though, as if it is any good, I would expect you to say so! |

I am still to hear the new UK DVD. I have the French DVD+CD package and also the good old US DVD. The 5.1 mix included in this new edition could be different from the French one. I, too, was hoping for an isolated score. I guess we will have to do that one ourselves, mixing both QUEEN and Blake CDs with some bits from the movie. P.S: I did not know it was you. Another kamikaze bidding! |

"Queen: Flash Gordon Original Soundtrack Recorded: Townhouse, The Music Centre, Advision, Utopia and Anvil Studios, October to November 1980." "OST: Flash Gordon/Amityville 3D, Howard Blake Recorded 1980/ Released 2000" According to FG sleeve and official Queen sources it was "Townhouse, The Music Centre, Advision, Utopia Studios, October to November 1980" and "Additional Orchestral Arrangements by Howard Blake: conducted by Howard Blake recorded by John Richards and Eric Tomlinson at Anvil Studios", but Mr Blake states that his parts were recorded in "September 1980 Denham Studios" though on other hand he says that he was "expanding" Freddie's and Brian's ideas, who've started to record the album one month later... "I was brought in in a crisis situation when it was found that the composer nominated by 'Queen' had for some reason been unable to complete 'more than one minute' of a score for the film. However, my relations with the members of Queen were always cordial. Brian May came over one day and hummed an idea for an 'overture'. As he did so I jotted it down on some manuscript paper and then played it back on the piano, which really startled him. They all came along to the orchestral recordings and seemed fascinated. I remember Freddie Mercury singing the idea of 'Ride to Arboria' in his high falsetto and I showed him how I could expand it into the orchestral section now on the film, with which he seemed very pleased. Whilst scoring I had cassettes of guitar ideas from Brian, in particular the slow 'falling-chord' sequence. I wrote this out into my score at one point and surrounded it with big orchestral colour. When I came to the recording I had Brian's solo guitar on headphones and conducted the orchestra in synch around it. Many months later Brian came over and we listened to the finished album." |
