Hi bummers, I was wondering what mp3 player to get, so fire away with what you got, and I want to know the best ones ect, like is an ipod any good, do the batteries last? Blah blah. |
Yuri 23.10.2005 12:34 |
i like my ipod....mainly because if i ever do have any problems the apple people are always willing to help and theyre very good about replacing and the warranty. I've only had to get replacement earbuds (the ones i got never worked) and had a problem with a defective USB chord..but nothing wiht the actual ipod |
Penetration_Guru 23.10.2005 15:16 |
Dudley, the ipod is perfect for your needs. |

He is right; iPod's are the best suited to most people's needs. I myself would KILL (or love) to have one myself, especially a 60GB one at that! |
Fairy 24.10.2005 07:15 |
I have a Muvo. Those are good too. |
inu-liger 24.10.2005 10:32 |
I have an iRiver MP3/WMA/FM player. It has 128MB of storage, which is FAR from being enough for me! Good player though, and good if you want something cheap (luckily, it was a graduation gift from my parents, so I didn't pay a cent!) |
bitesthedust 24.10.2005 13:21 |
I'm thinking of getting an iPod too...not an nano one, just a black mini 6GB one...is it worth having? |
Mr.Jingles 24.10.2005 13:37 |
I have an Ipod and so far I'm quite satisfied with it. It has 20GB, and a battery life of 12 hours (7 hours while using an Itrip). However, I wouldn't encourage anyone to get an Ipod just to follow the trend. It might be a good idea to ask your friends how each and everyone of them feel about using their MP3 players. You might also want to go to a good retailer and compare. The only thing I don't recommend is anyone to build their music library with Windows Media. Use either Itunes or MusicMatch, but Windows Media is a piece of shit. |

I'm getting an iPod Mini for Xmas.. :P .. yeah, I don't even have an mp3 player yet :( |
Yuri 24.10.2005 13:52 |
got my ipod for grad, was adamantly against it because it was apple (stupid reason) and had an archos jukebox prior to the ipod. I have a 30 gig ipod photo. its my pet. I praised it earlier but you truly get what you pay for. |

<b><font color=FF9900>bitesthedust wrote: I'm thinking of getting an iPod too...not an nano one, just a black mini 6GB one...is it worth having?I think Apple is going to discontinue the fabrication of the 'Ipod Mini'. Apparently they're trying to push the popularity of the 'Ipod Nano'. |
Mr.Jingles 24.10.2005 14:16 |
The Ipod Nano is pretty much the same as the Ipod Mini, except that it's half as thin, and easier to carry. I wouldn't call it stupid, but rather a good marketing strategy. |
Mr.Jingles 24.10.2005 14:35 |
There are two models, one that holds 2GB, and the other 4GB. Apparently some of the people who have received their Ipod Nanos have received them broken. However, Apple has mentioned that they're willing to immediatly replace any Ipods that have been received with any kind of damage. I don't know anyone who has actually broken an Ipod Nano after receiving it in good shape, so I can't tell how easily they break. Has anyone noticed how on Itunes you can now download music videos, and some TV episodes including 'Lost'. You could also put them in your Ipod as long as it's the newest version that supports watching videos. That totally kicks ass, although I'm tempted to get one of those I'd rather wait until the prices drop. |
Mr.Jingles 24.10.2005 14:44 |
Also be aware that a lot of customers say that the Ipod Nano scratches very easily (especially the black one). So unless you have a protection cover, you might want to be extremely careful if you wish to keep it in good shape. Then again, it's not the only MP3 player on earth. That's why I strongly recommend to compare brands. |
Mr.Jingles 24.10.2005 15:20 |
Thanks Linda, but I'm not particularly an expert on MP3 players. I just read a lot of customer reviews and make up my own ideas of what certain MP3 players might be like because no one can tell you better than an actual customer who has actually used the product. I know what you mean Linda by finding trendy things annoying. Teenagers always tend to follow the crowd, and consider those who don't follow weird or just simply un-cool. I remember when Discmans came out, all of sudden Walkmans were considered "OUT" by the "Cool Kids". I always liked the Walkmans better because at least you could listen to the radio on them. A very similar thing happened when Nintendos became popular in the late 80s, so then your good ol' Atari 2600 was considered a piece of crap. |

Free market competition: seems iPods came out on top. I feel that iPods maximize the convenience of organizing and playing music, especially as they are a perfect complement to iTunes. Other players may be slightly cheaper, and may play a slightly wider variety of media formats, however if you have the money, I suggest you take advantage of the dependability and convenience of an iPod. Also, since iPods are extremely common, as well as iTunes, it is easier to share music among peers. |

a radio MP3 player because it plays 3 discs |
Penetration_Guru 26.11.2005 14:42 |
iPods "come out on top" in a "free market" because they are marketed most strongly. Plenty of people find other players more appropriate to their needs, especially those whose needs include - radios - recording capabilities - customizable interface - range of music format |

Apple has excellent customer service and stands right by their product 100%, if you have any problem that is a manufacture or software glitch they will replace it right away. I remember my friend had an ipod that died on him the day after he got it and they let him get the brand new ipod video to replace it :) And yeah, nanos do scratch easily, I hate to imagine this because my regular ipod scratched super easily X_X |
bitesthedust 26.11.2005 16:49 |
thanks to Linda...I have a 5GB Creative Zen Micro, which is the business!!!!!!!!! |

Im currently on my 3rd ipod (first got stolen, and school paid for a new one, 2nd broke and they needed to get it replaced). Personally I wish id never got an ipod and went with another brand instead. The battery isnt great, and not replaceable, which is a major design fault in my opinion. It costs alot to get it replaced or you can risk doing it yourself. They do go wrong alot, both mine and my brothers have needed sending back, and we dont treat them badly. Admitely they do take them back and give you a new one if its in warrenty, but getting them sent back is hassle, and the person I spoke to over the phone was not very helpful at all. It seemed to me that they were trying to make them a pain in the arse to send back. Plus it needed shipping off to Holland, so they could just send me a new one (from Holland), which wasnt that fast. The earphone are awful, and you have to use itunes to get the music on it. Personally I went for 20GB which isnt enough, but thats going to be different for each individual. |

So all i had to do was walk in, gripe/complain, they look up when i registered it dicked around with it, then gave me a new one. I have the 30 gig ipod photo...which isnt nearly enough space. |
Rockyuk 26.11.2005 22:01 |
I had to phone up, argue with a scotish bloke, then he hung up, then I phoned up again, and they said id have to look on their website. Then I had to fill out forms on their website, then some more forms and some more forms. Then they sent me a box by courier. Then I had to stick the ipod in the box, then stuggle to find a phone number to tell them it was ready for collection (it was tiny and halfway through the manual), then they had me speaking my ref no. (or some number they'd assigned this box)into a computer over the phone, didnt work, told me to try again tomorrow. Tried the next day and got through to a human, who sorted it out, the courier picked up the box, then took 2 weeks to get it to Holland and back (with a new one). Alot of hassle to get a MP3 player returned. They sold me the dodgy product, they should have gone through the hassle. If there gonna sell goods, they should make sure they work. |

I've got a 4GB iPod Mini (I'm lucky I got it before they discontinued them) and it's perfect.. although the battery runs down so quickly so I'm always charging it.. |

Interesting definition of "perfect".... |
