It had to happen eventually: Tuesday evening at 8 o'clock, BBC2.
This weeks specialist subjects are:-
The literature of Lewis Carroll
The history and culture of the Maya
The partnership of Rodgers and Hammerstein
THE ROCK GROUP QUEEN.
I'll be seeing if I can beat the 'expert'.
I'll post the questions afterwards so you can all see how you would have done. No cheating though.
It's a bit premature to put expert in quotes as if the contestant is claiming to be something they're not.
Anyway, in my experience the specialist round on Mastermind is reasonably straightforward, and it's the general knowledge round that sorts them out.
I think the record single round on Mastermind is about 18 points - I'd expect any of us to be able to get at least 12.
absolutely PG. I concur. Lets see how he does, I certainly meant no disrespect. I watch Mastermind for the general knowledge round anyway. For that is the measure of a man (or woman) anyway.
Saw it. The guy was called something like John Moody, a 40-something project manager from somewhere up north, I think.
He got one wrong: "'It's dog eat dog in this rat race' comes from which John Deacon song on the News Of The World album?".
He said 'You and I', like a muppet, and ended up getting 16 out of 17.
I got all 17, as the vast majority of the long-term posters/more knowledgeable types here would have done. There was nothing too taxing. The only one which made me think was "On which album was Fred credited with [amongst other things] 'Bechstein debauchery'?". I nearly went for ADATR.
How long ago was that pic taken?
It *could* be him, but the guy from Mastermind was about 10 years older than that guy looks, and about a stone or 2 heavier.
Most probably not him I'd say.
I have to admit it was myself. Derek Moody, definately not the person on the downloaded image. I am not an ultra Queen fan but I am a person who apperecites there music
I must admit that the questions asked on Queen were easier than I had expected, but I can only answer the questions that are asked.
Yes I got one wrong, but do remember the circumstances under which the contestants take part, if you cannot immediately think of an answer, it is far better to say something than to pass. The first thing that come into my head was that the title had the word "you" in it, so there you have it.
Also contestants have only a short space of time to revise the subject after the previous round, in my case 4 weeks, and potentially only 2 and half weeks to a possible final. The first subject I chose was "I Claudius" on which I scored 18 on and for the final it would have been the Godfather film trilogy.

Hi Derek - just wondered , so you get a chance of going back on the show as a high scoring runner up ?
Hi Derek.
Sorry for calling you a muppet for getting the question wrong. I'm sure you knew it, and brain-farts when you're in the spotlight and under pressure like you were can never be avoided. It's easy to say it's easy when you're watching at home (the old cliche).
To be fair, I think you were very unlucky in the general knowledge round. The Mayan guy had far easier questions than you, and you were so close in the end. Plus you must have kicked yourself for saying 'Paddy Doyle' rather than 'Roddy Doyle' which would have put you within 1 point of Mayan dude.
You were very unlucky all in all. But well done mate.
In response to Dracula, the highest scoring losers no longer go through, though I am a reserve for the final as a highest scoring loser.
Bohardy thanks for the comments, no offense taken. Yes I did make a hash of the Roddy Doyle question, should have just said Doyle, and perhaps should have really got one or two more. The questions are only easy if you know the answer and Peter Wright the Maya expert did get given a nasty mistake when John Humphries said country instead of county for the Height's of Abraham question which obviously threw him at that point.
