Philadelphia Area radio station WXPN is currently playing back there listeners picks for the top 885 albums of all time. It's making for some pretty cool listening.Believe it or not News of the World has already come in at 879.Al though I believe News is a top 50 at least,it was kind of cool though that they played "Sleeping on the Sidewalk" and "It's Late" as the songs to represent the album.I'm sure ANATO will be much higher on the list with it being my #1 pick on my top ten list.WXPN is also streamed on the internet so if your interested check it out XPN is a really good station it's non-commercial sponsored by the University of Pennsylvania.Link provided link
If you haven't checked out this countdown, your missing out on something really special.Queen 2 was voted in at 763 and WXPN played "White Queen" and ""Seven Seas of Rhye" today as there countdown of the 885 Greatest albums continues.I'll tell you I haven't had this much fun listening to the Radio in a while. There playing all sorts of genres shortly after Queen they played two tracks from a Ray Charles album that was voted in as well as Sting, Tears for Fears,John Hiatt,The Mahavishnu Orchestra.I could go on and on .I have no vested interest other than just becoming a member and trying to share with my fellow Queen fans something that I think is unprecedeted in Radio! You can't imagine how great it felt to hear "White Queen" and "Seven Seas" on the radio today. This also non commercial listener supported radio, and there pledgr drive just ended so theyare really playing alot of great music.Check it out.The linkis in my initial post above. They Stream live on the internet worldwide.88.5 WXPN
I would hope Queen would be represented in the 885 Greatest Albums! But that's great...I remember when the classic rock radio station here played the entire News Of The World album and being able to hear songs like Sleeping On The Sidewalk and My Melancholy Blues instead of the usual eight or so songs they rotate.
One thing that makes it even more interesting is WXPN isn't a classic rock station.XPN normally plays newer music often by new artists along with the occasional deep cut from a classic artists. They do have various shows though.Blues, local bands,Classic Funk,New Age,Progressive.Sort of a really eclectic mix of music. So to see Queen2 is actually pretty impressive.Cheers
