I just watched Radio Ga Ga on the DVD from Final Live In Japan, and you can clearly hear John, so it was kind of stupid of John of saying that the mic was always off. Because, it as been discussed before, we all have facts showing that John sang on stage...
what the use of having a mic if it is off? Clearly John used to sing in concert, filling the choirs...if you see the wembley stadium live booklet, there's an image of John singing and the mike was on.
It's the fans who JOKE that the mic was always off, John has never said that. He was obviously very low in the mix (even Spike in 1985 was higher) and therefore barely heard...

This topic has been up so many times....:) And it's always as enjoyable to read this discussions ;)
i believe john sung on concerts. queen were so against miming and i dont think they wouldve let him. theres one place u can definetly hear him he does a few 'doo ahs' wif roger in 'ur so square' on wembley.
I really dont mean to bring a downer to this discussion, but I never understand the fascination with trying to prove John sang.
To be honest, there is honestly about 98% more evidence to suggest he didn't sing than there is, and, regarding the two or three apparently clear examples of him singing live, it's the old "if you want to hear it, you will" kinda situation in my opinion.
And if he did in fact sing, why was he NEVER credited for it? Why is there no actual quote from anyone saying he sang (amongst the numerous quotes saying he didnt), and why is it only in about three particular instances that he can apparently be heard? Why only these couple of shows? Did he just decide lol?
....it's a very tired topic
very simple - HE was never credited with singing...therefore , if he had he'd have wanted credit for it...unless his voice was so shite he'd rather some other fucker take the blame!!!
dunno about 'off mic' - but he was certainly 'off road' when he lost his licence
GKS: It's an indisputable fact that John DID sing live in some concerts, as the audio proves.
You're right in that it's only a small minority of concerts where you can actually hear this, although of course this doesn't mean that he wasn't singing in the concerts where you can't hear as, as his voice may well have just been buried in the mix.
I've never come across any quotes from anyone relating to John singing live, but we don't need them, because our ears and eyes confirm when he actually sang.
In the studio it's a different matter. Apart from Sebastian, no-one has ever claimed to hear John's voice on a studio recording, and there are numerous quotes by those in the know that confirm that John never sang properly in the studio.
My point is, it is those that "want to hear it" who are the ones that hear it. I've never in my life listened and thought "hmmm, is that John?".
To be honest, it would be great to discover if he did sing, but at the end of the day, given the technology in the studio that would aid his obviously weak voice, why chose to confirm you didnt do it there, yet apparently do it live when you have nowhere to hide?
And, all the supposed evidence is always one word or two words in the odd song. To be fair, if you can sing, sing. Why only chose a line or two? It just all seems too - I dunno - sparse and picked out and placed in front of us before we have a chance to make our own minds. It's like when you read an album review and you're told its shit, you automatically think "oh, maybe I wont buy it then" (perhaps). And when someone says "hey listen to this, look for the deep voice that says "all day long" - it's John!" you're gonna expect it, thus you're thinking you're hearing it, because you haven't got a reason to think it is something else. If we were given an audio and asked if we notice anything strange, and come to the conclusion that it is John, rather than a bum-note from Brian, maybe it will have a bit more credence.
But until then, or we have proof, I don't think it is unfair at all to say everything points to the outcome that John didn't sing.
