im just wondering why tie your mother down wasnt on queens greatest hits cd. in a queen magazine i have it was voted the 10th best queen song and i think it should be better. I was a bit dissapointed by it. it could have replaced many of the songs on their. but overall the cd is great and i was just wondering if u agree with me. |
Maz 28.08.2005 12:21 |
The band's rule was all GH material had to be Top 30 hits and TYMD wasn't a big enough chart success. |
Serry... 28.08.2005 12:32 |
Lack of space was one of the reasons too. Spread Your Wings wasn't neither. |
John S Stuart 28.08.2005 12:43 |
Q: "why was'nt tie your mother down on GH" Reasonable guess: It was NOT a "GH" ! Correct Answer: It was NOT a "GH" ! |
Serry... 28.08.2005 13:20 |
But on other hand: Las Palabras De Amor reached #17, Slightly Mad and The Miracle were in Top-30 only, but... The Show Must Go On was released two weeks before GHII and no-one could say if it's gonna be a huge hit (and it spent only two weeks in Top-20), but it's on GHII |
gazfred 28.08.2005 14:08 |
plus the show must go on is freddies farewell it had2 be on gh2 i would have put tymd on gh3 along with spread your wings. however a more important question is why wasnt a winters tale on gh3? its the last song freddie wrote and it got to number 6 higher than aobtd,fbg/br, ymbf, dsmn, sm, nih, goflb, ptg, flash, ssor, breakthru, wwtlf, headlong, the miracle, igsm, tim, htf, fwbf, tsmgo, ov, tmlwky, ydfm, lpda, lml,and noby all of which are on the gh albums |

Dear friend, TYMD and SYW are on Greatest Hits I!!!!!!!!! The very first issue of the GH1 is different from country to country!!!!! If I remember well TYMD and SYW are in the German one instead of SSOR!!!! In South America there's LOML instead SSOR and so on, in North America there's different tracks to the Europe GH1!!!! |
Serry... 29.08.2005 06:39 |
We're talking only about UK versions. |

Can any Queen fans in the know tell me more about the differing releases of Greatest Hits from country to country. Tracklistings, chart positions etc. Cheers Steve |
gazfred 29.08.2005 16:31 |
incidently the blue and red beatles albums do not just include singles. not being nit picking just thought id say |
AlexRocks 29.08.2005 16:36 |
It was on a greatest hits l.p. It was on "Classic Queen". I know this because I am better than everyone else. :P |
gazfred 29.08.2005 16:58 |
can i just clarify that when people say greatest hits they probably mean the albums encompassed in the silver platinum collection. |

Most Greatest Hits albums have a new single on them. Also, I'm Going Slightly Mad was a #1 hit in Hong Kong. |

I checked out a Beatles discography, and you're right, many of the tracks weren't singles. Then it may indeed be true that Queen was the first band to release two unique GH albums. Can anyone state this for certain? |

Under Pressure was the case when 'Greatest Hits' came out! |
Serry... 07.10.2005 08:31 |
Under Pressure is not on GH. UP is on GH2. I'm talking only about UK versions of albums. Then TSMGO is on GH2. Imagine if it's reached # 75 in the charts and it'd be on Greatest Hits album, yeah?... And I don't think you can promote album with the single what wasn't successful (I don't mean UP or TSMGO) - but how on the Earth you can say if it's gonna have some success or not? It's like promote GH with re-release of LOMO from LK, which is failed in the charts. |
Sebastian 07.10.2005 09:51 |
The "Queen as a first band releasing actual hits in the GH" legend seems to be more correct than I thought: Eagles' GH was the first platinnum album ever and all of their tracks were top 20s in Yankland EXCEPT Desperado, which only became famous after being squeezed in the Greatest Hits (as if, say, KYA had been put on Queen's GH). Still it's possible that another band (the Bee Gees for instance) released a compilation full of actual hits previously. It's hard to confirm but not impossible since there've been relatively few acts with enough top 30s to make an album. |
john bodega 08.10.2005 04:18 |
Meh. The only band with that many number ones is The Beatles. It's impressive that they had enough to fill a whole album, but even better was that most of the songs were really good too! |

Rockyuk 08.10.2005 11:35 |
Personally id have gotten rid of that version of Another One Bites the Dust with that prat rapping all over it and spoiling it (GH3), and stuck Tie Your Mother Down on it instead. |

Queen certainly pioneered putting a new song on the GH album, since Under Pressure was a Greatest Hits track before it appeared on Hot Space (Thank them for all the sub par filler crap tacked on GH albums that came afterwards lol)... wait since Under Pressure wasnt technically a hit when put on the album you can't say every song selected was a top 20 hit. |

Tie Your Mother down, Love of my life(specialy those 2),Spread your Wings and '39 are obviously missed on GH1 or....GH3. On the first one there were too many hit,the vinyl record had limited size and they wanted to have 17 songs... but on GH3 i really don't know why those songs weren-t included(along with Winter's Tale) . Intead of re-recorded versions of songs already on other albums(such as AOBTD with Wyclef Jean, SMGO With Elton, STL with George Michael, and the rah mix of under pressure, althought spectacular) or Great Pretender, althought a great song, it was not created by any Queen member. Princes of the Universe haven-t Hit any Chart, besides the 'Immortals Tv Series', or what name it was.. |
