Okay, it has been said that Freddie's highest recorded note was the Bb above the treble clef. Well, I was listening to "It's Late" and at 6:10 of the track, I hear a squeal which starts at that before-mentioned Bb and proceeds up to the F above that. It's insanely high, and I swear it doesn't sound like a guitar. I think it's Freddie... Is it the REAL highest note?
It is Brian's guitar.
He's doing some tapping stuff. He first picked the lower note with his pick and then with his index finger he tapped the top one and produced that kind of scream sound!! - I think there's some kind of bending in there wich helps the efect.
Funny that one year later Eddie Van Halen would developed and bring this technique to the masses!!
If you play electric guitar it's easy to understand.
Take care

it sounds in between a guitar and freddies voice, but more like a guitar
I think I know the bit you're on about Darling39, and it isn't Brian's guitar. It's Fred (seemingly accidentally) doing a crazy squeal, which then turns into a more orthodox yell.
I'll have to check it out when I get home and see what the notes are. If it indeed goes up to an F, it would beat Fred's highest known recorded note (actually a falsetto D above the Bb you mention), although you wouldn't really be able to count it alongside the D, as the F would be a voice-effect, and not actually pure singing.

In impromptu on the Wembley CD Freddie goes really high...if it is him... is it?
Oh is that why he didn't sing it at wembley... the guitar did the why part where he's supposed to go really high... hm... he's still got an incredible range
I wouldn't make the error of confusing Freddie's voice with Brian's guitar but I could see how someone would. Why? Because they are the two single greatest sounds in the world to me.
There is a part in Dragon Attack where they sound similar to me.
