frank152 wrote: he isnt replacing freddie. freddie is the man if he was replacing freddie it would be queen but its queen+ paul rodgersBut since Queen was all four of them (Fred, Bri, Rog and John), then surely the new tour should have been billed as Queen -Freddie Mercury -John Deacon +Paul Rodgers? |

As someone whose native language is not English I find it interesting to see that in the Anglo-American language "should have", "could have" and "would have" are slowly being replaced by "should of", "could of" and "would of". I wouldn't be surprised if in twenty years time that would be the standard way of spelling it. |
Wiley 21.08.2005 13:14 |
I don't know if it's some kind of slang or anything but I've never read this "should OF" thing out of this forum. Maybe because my native language is spanish and I don't read or post in any other forums. It's not in the grammar books, at least. I think it makes no sense. I just assumed that it was only non-english speaking posters that wrote it incorrectly that way. I know it's not supposed to be a 'grammatically correct' forum (and everybody makes mistakes) but sometimes it just seems people are too lazy to write full words, specially when the abbreviated version of the phrase makes no sense. Don't kill me for this, I'm a pain in the ass when it comes to critisizing grammar in spanish but I don't mean to be the same in english, hehe :) See ya, Wiley |

I would like to read some proof of Freddie stating he would want PR to sing Queen songs? |

Sharon G. wrote: I would like to read some proof of Freddie stating he would want PR to sing Queen songs? We will never really know what Freddie would've thought. For me, speaking as a musician, I would be thrilled to have someone like Paul Rodgers singing my songs after my death. You don't compose music to have it die with you. You compose with an ear toward something transcendent. You compose to reach people. You compose because you are compelled to. You compose for your own immortality. You don't compose with a thought that nobody can ever perform your songs. I bet Freddie would be happy that, all these years after his death, people are thrilled to hear his songs performed by Paul Rodgers and that Paul Rodgers wants to sing those songs. |

Freddie Mercury cant be replaced.... They say that he isnt being replaced but when someone is doing what he used to do (and nowhere close to as good i might add) i would call that replacement. Paul Rodgers is stepping in and doing what Freddie should be doing... noone seems to the mention John's part being taken to... its only half of Queen. We as the fans should have veto power on the tour. I love Brian and Roger and they are extremely Talented... but they didnt have to go under the Queen name. Freddie Mercury was Queen. Freddie, Brian, Roger and John were all Queen. But without Freddie or John, they are just Brian and Roger (and Paul) They could call the new band BRP (Burp) in theory. It would also be nice if they excluded Freddies songs... he didnt give permission to use them and I know i would be pissed as hell if someone sang my songs after i was dead. Freddie did them right the first time. No need to give them a bad name. We should just let Queen rest in peace, cause when Freddie died, Queen should have died with him. Thats my 2 cents. |

Freddie is the one and only Freddie... Paul Rogers dosen't have the same range, style, or talent as him, and frankly, I don't think this world will ever see someone as great as Freddie was.... |

Oh god- it's boring... You guys had a year for that- ain't enough? Nothing better to do than discussing same old things on internet forums over and over and over again for a year? Sad... |
Munchsack 02.11.2005 06:26 |
We'll probably never know. However, Freddie was a fan of Paul Rodgers, so he probably doesn't mind. |
Fairy 02.11.2005 06:40 |
Needless to say we cannot know. If there's a Heaven, I imagine it to be a place where these earthly things will seem so meaningless. I don't think anyone in Heaven can bear a grudge or feel mad about such things as a tour....But I think Freddie might just be having a good laugh, still certain of the fact that he is the champion, and the King...Something like this link Fairy |

of course noone can replace Freddie, he's not his replacement, when they start making music videos and Paul starts to act like freddie then we can worry. |

As Paul has always been one of Fred´s favourite vocalists due to Brian´s "confessions before the Tour"... I assume he is "rotating in joy and pleasure"... wherever he is! ;-) |

Paul Rodgers is irrelevant in rock & Roll history he represents what is rubbish about crap 70's rock, the guy should be playing at Butlins. BIN RODGERS GET ROBBIE AND DON@T CALL YOURSELVES QUEEN. |

I just assumed that it was only non-english speaking posters that wrote it incorrectly that way."Should of," "would of," "could of" and variants come from an incorrect spelling of the common contractions "should've," "would've," and "could've" respectively where the word "have" is shortened to "ve." This "ve" ending is pronounced in a variety of ways, usually with an unaccented vowel sound (such as the schwa sound or a short "u" sound, as in the word "under") followed by a "v" sound. This ending is commonly mistaken by native English speakers who are not entirely familiar with spelling conventions as the word "of." As a consequence of bad education, dialectual patterns such as this can endure in a given region for a long enough time to cause a change in convention, which in my opinion, is very sad. |
