Hi, wont let me download? Says "Aborting torrent as it was rejected by the tracker while not connected to any peers. Message from tracker Share Ratio Violation, please raise your share ratio up to 0.25 first" How do I do this? I currently have the maximum upload rate up to 15kbs, being in the uk n all we're not very priveledged in the upload department! |

Likewise, my share ratio (according to that site) is 0.06 so it wont let me download it. Despite the fact I've been seeding both the previous ones since yesterday and have had a nearly completely useless 4MB broadband connection as a result (upload is only 288k). (luckily I have two broadband connections so can use my other for normal stuff). This is ridiculous I'm permanently seeding stuff but just because this is the first three things I've downloaded through that site I'm unable to download the third one??? I'm still seeding the first two and maxing my bandwidth out with them so other people can get them but am being punished for not being a regular "dimeadozen" user (a site I'd never heard of before these downloads). Is there anything anyone can do for this? Edit: I've now stopped ALL other downloads and uploads on Bit Torrent other than these two that go through that site to maximise the bandwidth I can give to them so that stupid site will let me download this (which punishes all the other people I was sharing with at the time). I'm up to 0.07 now, at this rate I may be able to start downloading the third one by the end of the week if I'm really lucky. By the way this isnt a complaint about the original poster by any means, I thank you for making these available, the first two are excellent and I'm looking forward to getting the third, but that site is un-necessarily punishing people with lower upload speeds. |

As I posted on the DAD thread for part 2, if you don't share what you have downloaded, you aren't allowed to download more - if you only download but don't leave it open for others to upload, or you don't download until late on when most others have got their copy and are sharing, while the download is quicker, you there is no one left to share it with. It caused problems for me originaly but once you suss out the rules and work within them, it isn't a problem. Comment on Part 2 Download : Think you have to upload 1.25GB for every 5GB you download (or something like that) otherwise there are restrictions on what access you have - it's to ensure we all share our stuff. If you have just downloaded part 1 & part 2 of this dvd (at least 5GB between them which is why I am not bothering) and there hasn't been a lot of uploaders from you then you might have upset the laws that control the site. If you genuinely share stuff on here you should be ok - the rules are only there to stop the 'hit & run' leechers |

The first two DVD's are 7.04GB in total, I know that because I read my stats on that site and these are the only two files I have downloaded from that site, I have already uploaded 520MB back and am still only on 0.07 share ratio. I'd love to see anyone else share more out quicker on a 288k upload. My maximum download speeds are 485kbps (4MB Line) which is brilliant but UK ADSL connections have completely crap upload speeds, my maximum upload speed is about 30kbps and my upload has been hammering along between 5 and 28kbps since yesterday on these two files alone. I turned them off for about an hour this afternoon because I needed to do something else but then I turned them back on again afterwards and even posted in the appropriate thread to say so. These files have been uploading from me from the minute I had enough of them to upload. You say about sharing stuff with people on this site but these files arent on this site they are on an external site which has this limitation and which I personally have never used before and wont bother using again after I have this 3rd DVD to complete the set. I'm now faced with leaving my system seeding these two files and NOTHING else and not even being able to download any others because it would drop my upload speeds due to seeding those too, probably for the best part of this week before I can download the 3rd DVD. Fair you say?? hmmm not in my book. |

Thanks for this. I have no problems with dimadozen - like previous poster said though it does take some getting used to , but eventually you don't realise about the cycle enforcements. Just keep uploading the previous discs and you should be ok. (I am able to keep within site restrictions on a 512kb line) |
Froz1 14.08.2005 18:44 |
you only get 30kb upload on a 4mb line!! that is poor, as i get that on my 512kb line and i'm also in the UK. No wonder your having problems. |

Standard ADSL upload speed in the Uk is 256k as no doubt you know, my ISP has upped that to 288k but yeah I'm saddled with this fantastic download but shitty upload. Which means that at a ratio of 1.25GB in 5GB I end up waiting a week for it to go through before I can download again. I've learnt my lesson, I'll download the third DVD as soon as I can and I'll leave them seeded for as long as it helps people out after wards but I wont be downloading anything from dimeadozen again. As I said before this is nothing against the original poster I am very grateful to him for making these available. :o) |

Thanks for this. Re dimeadozen's share ratio. I've just started using that site. As a new user, I read up on the share ratio on their homepage, and I monitor the ratio when downloading, and continue to seed things when I can. One thing that makes a huge difference between dimeadozen and this site, is this: look at the number of peers with 100% who are seeding on dimeadozen, now look at how many peers with 100% who seed here. Sadly, I'll bet there are many more on dimeadozen. It appears to be true that most people here get their download and then move on. On dimeadozen, the enforcement cycle forces people to give as well as receive. Every file I've downloaded from dimeadozen, I've been able to complete. I have numerous incomplete files from this site because many people just grab what they want and go grab something else. A reseed request MIGHT get one or two people who are willing to help out. I've seeded files for days while posting requests for others to help out to speed things up, and rarely does anyone jump on and help out. Kinda sad because we're generally a cool bunch of people here. I hate the idea that enforcement is necessary to get people to share, but it seems to be working over on dimeadozen. |

The SRE works well in discouraging those who download and bugger off without sharing. It just probably requires patience when you first join as you won't have a "buffer". It shouldn't be a problem if you aim to keep your ratio above 1 (which is where it should be). I used to aim for a ratio of 2 or more but once my ISP introduced transfer limits I now aim for 1 but seed beyond this if a ressed is needed. Of course another way to increase your share ratio is to seed some of your own stuff on there. |
Ian-Highlander 15.08.2005 19:03 |
Despite what some people here seem to think of me, that isnt what I was saying, but maybe I just didnt explain myself very well and frankly I'm not going to bother trying to get into serious detail over it. I'm no leecher, I seed things on Bit Torrent more than I download as it happens, just that I rarely download anything this big through it. Anyway, I've interrupted the flow of this thread way too much and that was never my intention. I'm now seeding all three of the DVD's as I have them completed and again I thank the original poster for them very much. As I said before I will leave these three up for as long as it helps people out. |

I just read the rules at dimeadozen. A share ratio of 25% is extremely fair. It's pretty damn low, and that's because not everyone has great u/d speeds. Over at tradersden and crazymazie, they require a 50% ratio. Tradersden then "requests" that if you have a high speed connection that you share at a 1.5 ratio to make up for the slow speeders, but they don't enforce it. Dimeadozen is being extremely resonable, maybe a little too much. I just live by one rule. Give what you take. If I had a slow connection, then I probably wouldn't go by that rule, but I'd at least give 25 percent. Mike |
