Not bad at all. But certainly not the usual cleanliness that we usually hear from your mixes. And it seemed a bit loud as I had to turn my speakers down by about 20%. I marked the following: 1:19 to 1:31 - boxy sounding vocal (cut 400Hz a bit, i.e. 1-2db) However, it may be the effect that's causing the boxiness in the sound. And I don't really care for that verse 2 sound on the vocal all the way through. Some of those edits that drop back into the 88 version are a little abrupt. And that ending with the delayed vocal... I loved the way it is on the MIH record. One line and then things settle. The delay kind of messes that up for me. The previous version mix that someone brought up is called the Floss Mix. It also combined the 88 and 95 versions, except with more of Roger's lead vocal. It's not bad, but this one of yours is a marked improvement on that one. Just beware, I'm sure someone will be asking for a Roger version! Peace, Adam. |

Could be due to overlapping. Adam Baboolal wrote: And I don't really care for that verse 2 sound on the vocal all the way through. That slight phasing comes from running the two versions together - is there a way round that? In actual fact, I think, in this instance, it didn't sound too bad, and worked quite well in a couple of places. Adam Baboolal wrote: Some of those edits that drop back into the 88 version are a little abrupt. There's a slightly dodgy one at 3:17, but I thought the others were OK. It's not easy with two very different drum sounds, as you will know. Adam Baboolal wrote: And that ending with the delayed vocal... I loved the way it is on the MIH record. It might be better if the drums could be taken out of Roger's version, but that's probably virtually impossible without access to the original tracks. |

Well Done! Yards better than the Floss mix from years gone by..... |

I was just listening to HFE on the MIH album and remembered they'd pitch shifted Fred's vox up a fair amount for certain points at the beginning and end. And it's always stuck out for me. Thought I'd fix it and offer it for download, HOWEVER... there's too much processing on the Queen version to grab it via Audition. I listened to the Cross one and it was also buried in the track and had another instrument crossing it! Grrr!! Is there another existing track where Fred's "This could be heaven" (in the opening) is easier to hear and possibly easier to capture? The crap segment I got from the Queen version sounded really good as it was pitched up in Melodyne. If only they'd had this technology back in 1995! It does sound like Freddie actually sang that additional part rather than it sounding shifted. Peace, Adam. |

I don't think there are any other versions, are there? The single version is just a bit shorter, but the same mix, and The eYe and Karaoke versions are exactly the opposite to what you need! Now, there's a thought - why can't somebody do an Acapella version of the Karaoke CDs, for bands, with the instruments removed and the vocals left? That would be fun! |
Adam Baboolal 17.08.2005 18:25 |
I also tried that little acapella trick that I remember from a little while back on here. It worked for the end and cuts and cancels at certain points. But unfortunately, there's still loads going on in the track. Defeat? Peace, Adam. |

Actually, I think that Ross Robertson of the Floss Mixes had the same idea, mixing the two versions as well as one other, I think. link |

Edit:- Just heard it, and it's not 'crap', but seems a bit 'busy' in places with the joint vocals of Freddie and Roger - by the way, where did the orchestral and Roger vocal versions come from? I might be able to do something with those. I love the orchectral bit at the end of the Floss mix. |

No, the Floss Mix is a mix of the Queen version and a "orchestra tribute recording" with some gregorian choruses. |

Adam Baboolal 18.08.2005 13:35 |
The Cross version is actually two-fold. One released somewhere with Freddie's vocal. And the second was released somewhere else with Roger's vocals. I don't know the details, I'm afraid. But something to do with different territories. Peace, Adam. P.S. I'm setting a rapidshare up... ahem. EDIT: There we go - link P.P.S. DONE! ;) |

The ´7 single has been relaesed with Freddie´s vocals on A-side and Roger´s vocals on B-side!!!!!! Or the other way.... The european Shove It Album has the version with Freddie´s vocals and the US release the version with Roger´s vocals!!!!!! Lord Fickle, if you need one of the versions.......... |
