Generally, I think freaking out over every single reference to Queen is tiresome -- how many times have we seen simple shout outs by other bands designated as "news" here?
Nonetheless, I was amused by the number of connections to Queen I could make during some of the performances at the various venues for Live 8. If you can add to my list, go ahead.
::List of Queen-related Thingies During Live 8::
-Robbie Williams (London) does We Will Rock You (and does that looking-into-the-camera thing that Freddie did in Live Aid)
-Green Day (Berlin) does We Are The Champions
-Green Day does that "day-oh" sing-along thing
-Canadian concert MC's Tom Green and Dan Akryod do that "day-oh" sing-along thing
-Scott Weiland of Velvet Revolver (London) does that "day-oh" sing-along thing
-Scott Weiland vaguely looks like Leather-fetish Freddie when he goes topless and wears a conductor cap and sunglasses
-Peter Kay (London) taps on mic and does Flash Gordon
-Gord Downie of The Tragically Hip (Barrie... aka Toronto) does ad lib during Poets, mumbling about "Freddie Mercury" over and over
If you go to the AOL website, you can can relive the concerts in London, Philly, and Barrie/Toronto, choosing the artist you want to watch and even the song. Nice.
Actually, you can relive performances from six of the cities.
One page is dedicated to London, Philadelphia and Toronto.
Another is dedicated to Paris, Berlin and Rome.
You have to click on "CLICK FOR YOUR GUIDE TO BERLIN, PARIS, ROME" though to get to it. It's in red on the London/Philly/Toronto page.
On VH1, they showed a brief film of Live Aid, it concluded with, "But the stage belonged to Queen..."
It talked about their performance for a few minutes, it was great.
went to the edinburgh concert yesterday, which was amazing and Chris Evans got the crowd to do the clapping of 'Radio Ga Ga' for the cameras! was great fun though :D
What really wreaked my head about Live 8 was that so many artists did that ay-oh chant/response thing. And none of them pulled it off. When whats-his-face from Coldplay did it I had to laugh 'cause it was so crap. Freddie was the only performer I have ever seen who really pulled it off.I wish all those eejits at Live 8 hadn't tried to imitate him.
