What does "Seven Seas of Rhye" mean? It's not in my dictionary
Rhye is an Ancient Mythical God from the sea invented by the American Gothic novelist H.P. Lovecraft. Rhye is one of the many mythical characters in Lovecraft's tales.

I was wondering which Lovecraft book mentions "Rhye"? and if anybody knows if it has any relevance to the lyrics of the song.
Wikipedia says: ''The song is about Freddie Mercury's childhood fantasy world named Rhye''
Though I'm not sure about it. On Russian Rhye - means Heaven and I don't know where this word came to our language from...
this is from Wikipedia...(paraphrased somewhat)
R'lyeh is a fictional city that first appeared in the writings of HP Lovecraft....a sunken city under the Pacific Ocean where the godlike being Cthulhu resides....characterized by an architecture based on non Euclidean geometry...

Most of H.P. Lovecraft's stories were written in the '30s and many were in print in the '50s and '60s via the publisher Arkham House, so its entirely possible Freddie had read some of his better known pieces.
But I don't think that's where the Rhye in 'Seven Seas of Rhye' came from.
