Does anyone know what the quality is of these recordings?
Are any of them actually worth having? (From a performance/quality point of view)
For example Ive heard it said that Last Live in Japan is one of the best bootlegs sound and performance wise, but is the version available for download from the shop as good as the boots of this gig doing the rounds?
The reason I ask is that I heard this gig was a soundboard boot and figured Queen Productions would never release a bootleg which essentially contains a "stolen" (Borrowed/donated/whatever you want to call it) soundboard recording, thereby semi condoning its use.....?
Any clarification on this?
Cheers.
Not true. Or do you mean the top 100 bootlegs on Queenonline?
There are some nice official bootlegs out there, such as First Live Attack and Live in Cologne '74.

It was a huge failure, that's why they stopped.
You got any proof of that? Sure we complained, but the albums still managed to sell. We never did hear how much they actually sold, so we have no idea if it was a ''huge failure'' other than your opinion.
I imagine that Queen Productions got too busy with the tour to worry about this. The Bootleg Project was started before the UK Hall of Fame show, which means before Queen got all involved with planning a European tour, recruiting a new bass player, teaching a new singer their songs, getting everything into tour shape, etc, etc, etc. Brian has said on more than one occassion that touring overtakes your life; seems it probably overtook QP at this point.
With the opportunity to sell live tracks from a new tour, it makes complete sense to me that the Bootleg Project be placed on the back-burner. The question is whether or not they'll ever start it back up (I doubt it, but we'll see).

We're talking about the '100 bootlegs'. There's nothing official about First Live Attack and Cologne '74.
I still say that QP won't 'beat the bootleggers' until they offer material that is better quality. Almost all of the 'official bootlegs' offered for sale are inferior to some copies in common circulation.

Actually you said 'official bootleg like Live in Cologne'74 etc.', but a such a release can never be official, otherwise it wouldn't be called a 'bootleg'.
