Hello, Does anyone here, know how Brian uses his tone knob on the Red Special, i don't know how to use it (if you have noticed he always turns it in solos and riifs etc, and i could do without the insults about my stupid questions thank you. |

Remove it and throw it out. You don't need this knob. Too hard to use. |
Johnny Knoxville 12.06.2005 16:57 |
Are you taking the piss? look buddy i was asking all those Questions because the Red Special, is a hard thing to figure out, you obviosuly do need the tone knob because Brian uses it more than the bluddy volume knob! |
Serry... 12.06.2005 17:01 |
You're asking these questions in wrong forum. You ask too many of such questions. Buy Fender instead of RS - it's easier. We gave you tons of links with FAQ about guitars, RS, Brian etc. - but you still ask questions. On the next month you'd buy the Deaky Amp or Ludwig drum kit and we would have to answer on another series of questions how to use it? |

Johnny, there really is no fundamental difference between brian's guitar, and any other electric guitar. they all use the same strings, tuning, and amplification to reproduce their sound. therefore that leaves you with two choices. first: trial and error. this will take time, but there is no substitute for experience. second: you are clearly writing in the wrong forum. Queen fans we may be - but guitar experts we are not. can i politely suggest you stop asking such questions here - and try a dedicated guitarist forum instead? there are millions of them out there, and furthermore, they will be able to help you far more than anyone in here ever could. failing all that, get yourself a professional tutor or sell your red special and buy a strat instead. |

I can see only one way to avoid being insulted for asking stupid questions |
Penetration_Guru 12.06.2005 17:25 |
Accurate answer----- "he twists it about a bit" |
englishyob 12.06.2005 17:28 |
best thing is practise and lots of it and try not to think about how Brian does this or how Brian does that develop your own style |

You may not think your questions are unnecesary, but they really are. Very, very unnecesary. The RS is a guitar. It's not a mythical piece of rock history. It has the same makeup on top that any other guitar has. Underneath is a different matter, but you're not asking about those areas, so it doesn't come into it. You will benefit more by trying to learn these things on your own. Case-in-point, I lost my tuner. Had to tune my guitar by ear and then checked it against something in tune. I don't use a tuner anymore because I can usually get the tones right by ear. It takes time, but it's worth it. Same here and in most of your other threads. Take the time to build your knowledge and use things like dedicated guitar forums and magazines, etc. Those WILL help you without doubt. And like John says, this is a Queen forum, not a guitar forum. You'll be in better hands on a dedicated forum. Peace, Adam. |

Ok Johnny what Brian May does with this knob he makes the sound higher and lower which make sort of an effect that is used in many songs. Many guitarist you see may do. Please as John S Stuart said trial and error man. If you want to learn to play the Red Special explore and experiment with it, if you something Brian does try it yourself and see if you end up with the same conclusion. To Play Experiment with your guitar Press all the buttons and play with the knobs Learn Chords and Tabs many sites for this even on the QZ home page on the links go to Queen-The Royal Legend That is a good site for tabs or ultimate-guitar.com or others As for Chords try I've Just Seen A Face by Beatles Master it the easiest chords songs perfect that chord transitions and soon you'll be playing '39 Finally Practice, Jam, Experiment This is easier learn more chords learn tabs Practice is Perfect Go to cyberfret.com for BETTER ONLINE LESSONS I mean it you will rip up May, Rhoads, Harrison all great guitarists Songs like nothing Just go to cyberfret.com |

I usually avoid these and go for the good old fashioned trial and error method but that site is really good. |

This is what Scott Mercury is on about. Johnny Knoxville (the name of the 'Jackass" guy, which leads me to believe this guy thinks his annoying posts equal humour) is either really stupid or really, really stupid. He's asked about a dozen stupid questions, and some people answer them. He's been given links to learn if he wants to learn. Ignore him. He'll leave, and that'll make the board better. Same for Linda of the Valley. Her contributions to this board can be summed up by saying she makes every poster feel intelectually superior to her and her naughty 14 year old vocabulary. |

Out of interest, when did you start playing guitar? |
Ms. Bea Haven 13.06.2005 15:15 |
Quick - somebody do me a favor and take that guitar away from this guy. He obviously doesn't deserve to have such a wonderful instrument. Forchrissakes already. |

As uncomfortable as I am discussing "Brian's tone knob" . . . Johnny, Just keep tightening that e string. Yep, tighter . . . just really crank it tight . . . Next we'll work on getting that true "Bri finish" to the RS varnish. What's the weather like there in Knoxvilleland? Hazy, hot, and humid? When's the next rain storm predicted? It's really good to leave it out in the rain, the same way Brian did on the Friday night of the 1986 Wembley gig. Preferably for several days to really let it soak in. Then, stick it in the freezer for several hours for a real cool "Bri spiderweb" effect. All the kids on your street will be soooooo jealous! |

Sorry to pick on you, Linda Of The Valley, but you were unfortunately on the top of my head as the representative of people who bring nothing meaningful to the board (see Johnny Knoxville, etc.) Here's a sample of your wit from a post of who Queen are? Poster: "Hello ......... It's not Queen" Linda Of The Valley: "Hello.....and fuck off you bastard." There's a ton of your posts like that. Someone believes that Queen are made up of a certain group of 4 people. You disagree, and that's your intelligent reply? And that adds to the serious discussion of Queen in what way? I don't think your responses make you a bad person or anything like that, it just means that if people come to this board looking to learn something about Queen, yours is a good name to avoid. I have nothing against swearing, but you swear like a trooper in each post because you can't communicate any thoughts, and you can off as a dumb ass. Post something meaningful once in a while, you'll be surprised how people will respect you more. I await your inevitable foul mouthed reply. |
