My favourite Queen album cover is the Made in Heaven one because it puts a fitting end to the greatest band. And I also like the uniqueness? of the Miracle cover.
A tie between ANATO...for it's definitive artwork that would become Queen's crest and symbol...
..and Made In Heaven...for it's meaningful, and sublime beauty as a postscript to what was..and still it. Majestic and subtle at the same time, says it all about who Queen are, not only to us the fans, but to the band members...to one another and how they felt about one another..and Freddie.
I really had a good look at Queen covers nad to be quit honest i think they are art (not all offcourse) and different forms of art.

No, the cover of Queen (Queen I, if you will) isnt painted. Read the extensive Queen bio on this site (it's excellent) and I believe it'll explain it for you.
"Queen were involved in every aspect of the album. The back cover features a collage of photos. The band invited their friends around to Freddie's flat to pick out the best photo's from the one they had. After picking out the best ones, Freddie and Brian spent weeks gluing them all together.
A photographer friend of theirs, Doug Puddifoot who had taken many on their early shots helped them with the collage as well as the album cover. The cover consisted of a picture of Freddie on stage, backed with two spotlights. The purple effect was given by covering the camera lens with some plastic. "
I like all the Queen covers cos they show the varying fashions and ideals of Queens career.
My fav's tho are Innuendo, The Miracle and News Of The World!
I think I would have to say News Of The World.
Something really sad is that I never realized it was a picture of Freddie, Brian, Roger, and John with that robot dude. A while ago my brother pointed it out on my mum's old LP cover, and I was like, "You're right it does look like them!!!" So, I felt pretty stupid after he showed me. But, I think that also helps make the cover really cool.

Great cover, horrible album
I agree with you!.. same goes to Live Killers (with all that lights and the guys on stage)..
But for studio album covers, I would say that it's a tie between News Of The World and The Miracle...
1. Hot Space
2. Queen II
3. A Night At The Opera
4. News Of The World
5. The Greatest Hits

Ooh you're the best friend that I ever had
I've been with you such a long time
You're my sunshine and I want you to know
That my feelings are true
I really love you
Oh you're my best friend.
It would have to be innuendo or news of the world, probably innuendo cause the whole album has a whole arty image to it, which is great, and reflects the music of that album as well.
Just my opinion....
The album cover for jazz is based on the jazz discipline of optical art - (as most notably used by british artist Bridget Riley) - hope this enlightens everyone who wonders what is going on with this album cover.
As this is loosely related to Graphic Design, it is probably based on some of freddies artwork, as he would have no doubt been aware of it while at art college.
