Yesterday our car broke down at night. We borrow a truck from my mom and were gonna get it towed in the morning. At midnight, I get a call from the cops saying that the car had caught on fire and was 85% burned...:-S
Heh, spontaneous car combustion is good.
Has to be, innit? You know...pistons and what not.
I had a friend have that happen to him. He was acting repsonsibly because he was pissed and not able to drive. He left his Ford Escort on the side of the road and when I drove him back the next morning it was gutted. No phone call though. Even though he had about 2000 dollars worth of audio equipment in his car he was only concerned about a necklace he had been given by his girlfriend a couple of weeks previous. I shed a tear that day.
Damn thing was still warm too.
My brother had a Ford Granada Ghia that was stolen, it was his pride and joy. The police found it a week later and returned it to him, including the 4 new tyres the thieves had put on it!!
The following week, the same bastards came back and torched the car. My brother was more upset than when his wife left him LOL.
UPDATE: We have a new car now...no thanks to the insurance company, which I am sure will not even give us the payoff amount on the old car. Anywho..hope this one doesn't burst into flames anytime soon..;-)
Insurance companies are like the mob. They always find the most sneaky ways to scam people.
As Chris Rock said once...
- Insurance should be called "IN CASE SHIT HAPPENS", and if shit doesn't happen shouldn't I get my money back?
Anyways, glad to hear you're safe.

Not always ... I received over $2000 from my insurance company after my then 9 year old car was totaled by a runaway spare tire. I drove it with a duct tape repair job for over a year after that (never needing any repairs) before trading it for a new car a few months ago.
However, my health insurace through my job can be a royal pain. Fortunately, our company's health insurance administrator will stand up to the insurance company and fight for what is right.
