Does any one know much about the other version of Cool Cat, with Bowie doing backing, I noted that it is refered to as a Demo version, or that Bowies vocals are unclear....is this because people only hear poor quality copies?
He did back vocal (plus a couple of speaking words) and later didn't like it (Bowie was not comfortable with the song) that's why it is unreleased (officially...).
May explain a bit. I see most people refering to it as a demo, I have a test pressing of the Hot Space Album with this version on it, it is a finished product, not a demo...thought there may be another version,
I dont think its a demo.... it sounds like Bowie just added a few vocal sounds to the finished take, and thank fuck it didn't see the light of day as what he does add to it is laughable.
The version with David Bowie was supposed to be the official version released on the album. However, a few weeks before the album's release David Bowie tells them he doesn't want Cool Cat to be released with his vocals on it, because he isn't satisfied with his performance, so they have to go back and edit David's voice out of it. It explains why the album came out a few weeks later than originally planned and why test pressings of the album exists with Bowie vocals on Cool Cat.
From what I can gather test pressings with this take a rare, I have another which is as the released version too.
Both are going up for sale if any one is interested....
i have it and it sounds really funny. Freddie is in a sopriano voice during the song and bowie just kinda says one or two things then stops doing anything but making noices in the background. In the end Freddie sounds like he's singing in the shower.

This version ar whatever you want to call it, is total shit! Only have it because it's a rare recording!
Cool Cat has to be in the top five of worst songs ever recorded by the band with Body Language at the top!! Both are absolute f****** shit as is most of their Hot Space album with the exception of UP,ATD and POTF.
