It said where I read about Queen in a magazine about Queen ages ago that Brian came close to suicide? Is this true? Pl send information. |
XcessQueen 25.04.2005 17:12 |
Brian have children, wife, job and life that he loves. What a stupid thought that he would want to kill himself. On the other hand, I don't have anything that he has. So... |
doremi 25.04.2005 17:17 |
I read that article too, can't remember where but the article I think was pretty recent. Think Brian was recalling that he was VERY depressed and it was when Freddie had just died, Brian's 1st marriage was going through a rancorous divorce, Brian's father was either ill or had also just died..it was like evrything at once. I don't think he was going to "DO" it, I think he was just severly depressed...which he said and at one time he checked himself into therapy at a clinic in the USA in Pheonix, Arizona. |
Mr.Jingles 25.04.2005 17:31 |
I think he mentioned before that the reason why he named his album "Back To The Light" in 1992 was because he just finished coming through a very hard period of depression which was directly related to all the things that Arlene mentioned before. |
Mr.Jingles 25.04.2005 17:31 |
Btw, I remember reading on that article that Brian didn't attempt suicide, but during that very depressing moment it crossed his mind. |
wstüssyb 25.04.2005 17:56 |
could have sworn is was right after Freddie died, and Brian was talking about his solo stuff, the tribute concert and the songs that he wrote |
djaef 25.04.2005 18:55 |
He said something about being behind the wheel of a car and thinking he could just plough into a wall, or over a cliff or something. I think it was in that context he thought of suicide. |

Here's a pretty in depth interview with Brian that outlines his issues. Does mention his thoughts of suicide. Here it is! From The Daily Mirror, May 16, 2002. Quote from Brian's interview "I lost my dad, my marriage and the band... I thought about suicide but Anita saved me...." "He (Brian) looks good too, despite the fatigue. At 54, ludicrously he still looks as he always has done." "But the way he feels is in stark contrast to how he was for most of the last decade. Freddie Mercury's tragic death from Aids in 1991 sparked off a depression that culminated in a breakdown four years ago and thoughts of suicide." "FREDDIE'S death was not the only disaster that Brian had to contend with that year." "My father died, and everything happened at once," he says, looking bleak. "I lost one of my closest friends, I lost the band, which was like a family, I lost my marriage. All in the same year. "I have great strength, a strong optimistic side, but because I didn't really deal with the loss, I was carrying this low-grade depression for a long time. And much later, when I came to the complete crisis, I'd lost my Mum too." Here's the full Interview link |

very sad |
Benn 26.04.2005 07:02 |
The material that formed Back To The Light mostly came out of this period of dispair - I'm Scared, The Dark, Back To The Light, Too Much Love Will Kill You etc. From memory, there were plenty of interviews in magazines like Rock World, Guitarist etc that expanded on the subject and Brian was very open about it. Marriage break down, separation from his children, the death of his father and Freddie all coming along in the space of 4 or 5 years. Why would anyone think that Brian is any less susceptible to suicidal thoughts than anyone else? |

Wow it's beautiful. It's when you read this that you realize how human he actually is |
Adam Baboolal 26.04.2005 10:08 |
Didn't he have a bit of a breakdown and had to go to a therapy group? Peace, Adam. |

Poor Brian :-( At least he seems to be enjoying life at the moment! |
Live Killer 27.04.2005 09:32 |
I think I read somewhere that brian was also depressed during the 80, or was it the seventies? But I´m not sure at all... |
scprof 27.04.2005 14:04 |
I doubt that TMLWKY was written after this period as Freddie sang it on MIH. |
Mrs Taylor 05 27.04.2005 16:21 |
I read about it in Laura Jackson's Queen biography I don't know if it's true, but it says here that .. "He felt he didn't exist as a person anymore, and, on his own admission nearly drove off a bridge in a bid to escape his desolation and despair." This was just after, Freddie died, he split up with his first wife, there was rumours in the press that he was having an affair with Anita Dobson and his father had died. Poor Bri, that's such a shame, I'm so happy he's ok now !! !! |

Here's the full Interview link On the more relevant note, I can understand very much how he felt, I too lost a few people that meant a lot to me in 1991, Obviously Freddie, but then there was Gene Roddenberry (creator of Star Trek) and "Lynn" Lillia P. Hibaya, she was my Philippine GF who died as a result of a combination of a volcano dumping loads of ASH on her town and a Typhoon that hit the same day flooding the area just hit, so in 91 I was a complete wreck and Freddie's Passing was just the final straw, I lost it, I started to drink a lot more, Queen meant a LOT to me, and I had come to see them as more than a band. |

OMG!!I didn't know it was THAT bad! OMG! Poor Brian! OH all my love to you Bri! |
Fairy 28.04.2005 17:11 |
Yes I had seen an interview of Brian when Back to the Light came out. I think he said he had been in a bad depression for the last 5 years, but somehow he always knew he would make it, and that the title of his album would be "Back to the light". That song is beautiful btw. That's why I say that if he feels like touring with PR he should do it (though I personally dislike the idea), because he's been through so much he deserves all the happiness in the world. Well we all do! :-) Fairy |

This is a personal issue - let's not express opinions about someone we don't actually know |

I think this all happened at about the same time as he got beaten at pinball by a stalking Queenzoner. |

scprof wrote: I doubt that TMLWKY was written after this period as Freddie sang it on MIH.Brian wrote it in the late 80's as it was planned to appear on "The Miracle". It talks about loving two women and not knowing which one to choose. The two women were Chrissy and Anita. So that is in the middle of his breakdown. His father died in 88, he divorced, Freddie died in 1991 and other things might have happened but that's basically it. Dan. |

:'( It's so sad. I knew he had lost his marrige that year too... but I didn't knew that he had lost his father that same year :( Now I feel so sorry for him... Let's all thank God (or who ever you belive in) for that he didn't commit suicide at that time ! |
MadeInMadhouse 06.05.2005 18:33 |
Oh!! Thank God He didnt comit that, and he is still alive Wow how strong is the Mind and soul of this man!!! Hurrah!! He survived!! |

i don't like getting into this type of stuff, but, what brian went through is nothing out of the ordinary, depression is among the biggest problems in peoples lives, i don't wanna sound harsh but brian is no stronger than the rest of us. |
